Hiya.
Quick question...building a half brick gazebo with brick and half columns (4m x 3m).... brick up to .9 high, with approx 1m oak posts. Was originally going for 7" (175mm) square posts but wondering if this would look too heavy because posts are short and should go for 6" instead? Didn't want them to look too puny by the time they are planed and might also chamfer them part way up.
What would you do re post size?

What do you mean by a gazebo? 4 corners and a roof with 4 open sides? If so what is the roof construction going to be?

Hi, thanks for responding. Roof weight not an issue as there are some full height brick columns and walls involved at the back and roof load in kN/M2 really low (around 0.5). Also incorporating shoulder braces on posts. Just interested in people's opinions or experience with visuals between 6" or 7" on a 330mm brick column :)

Daft as it sounds, the jump from 6" up to 7", whilst only small in size might be big in pocket. I'd be more concerned with controlling the movement and how it affects the masonry.
