Friends.

They actually seemed very different shows to me. Apart from the ensemble cast. What links are you seeing with Friends?

Dunno! I suppose the overall appearance and setting of those shows, the type of people, the language. Hard to say, and I don't know what an 'ensemble cast' is. Remember, back then you would only see these shows once a week, there was no Internet, and unlike now, people didn't know every fact and minute detail.

There was another US comedy called 'Welcome Back Kotter' which I liked. Later, there was 'Different Strokes' which I found to be a poor relation to 'Welcome Back Kotter', in the same way that 'Friends' pales in comparison to 'Taxi' etc. Then there was Cheers, Frazier and the rest. It all became so boring and omnipresent.

I had to look up Welcome Back, Kotter—you've officially out-nerded me there! I get your theory on the evolution of it all, but Friends and Taxi are still just too different to compare.

Whats not funny about this :ROFLMAO:

While we are here, what’s everyone’s favourite episode.

I like the one when Janice asks if it “nearly” happened.

Followed by the vegas ones

Watched it in the 90s but not since.
Modern Uk comedy worth watching:
Friday Night Dinner - superb. Give it an episode or two to get used to it.
Ghosts - better than the US version.

Fave Friends episodes would probably be the one where everyone finds out, the one with the video tape and the ones with Reese Witherspoon. But there are many, many more.

Loved Friday night dinner, watched it all through lock down...some episodes aren't great though.

Also love Gavin and Stacey, and the Inbetweeers

Its not.... its just taken the fella out of the inbetweeners , plonked him hime in a Jewish family and cloned everyone around his personality. Neither clever or that funny.

It’s subjective so you’re right and wrong.
