We’ve had a timber frame/brick skin extension built.

We got triple glazed aluminium units as there’s a high proportion of glass to m2.

My builder is planning on simply screwing them to the frame and foaming.

I’m reading about fire rated cavity closers and insulation tape. Methods to prevent thermal bridging and airtight was around them.

I didn’t want to spend on getting triple glazed, have really thick wall insulation and then lose all of the heat around the windows.

Can anyone advise ?

If i don't think a builder can do a job i don't hire him. No good wondering in the middle of a project. Let him get on with it, i'd say.

you've got 6564 messages have you just copy and pasted this statement 6564 times?
No.
I wanted to bump the question to get an answer as my knowledge is limited.
June 27th the question was asked!
My answer was simple to bump question.

Also you can look online for the fitting spec so windows meets regs.
You to confirm in writing it's to building regs and get a certificate to say so when job is complete.
The information is online.
Fitters sometimes want to cut corners or do things different I guess. You seems to know this and want confirmation it's ok

Oh. Me bumping question has worked.I back out now.

I'd say if you are going to comment on someones query on a DIY forum, stick to the subject matter. Sometimes, people sign contracts with builders without having a crystal ball about what exactly type of job they'll do. I'm guessing you have a crystal ball... Well done you

Here's what we're doing for timber frame build jambs these days:

Thanks. Theres meeting building regs and then theres achieving a fitting spec that matches the the higher spec windows. Part of my research about that was asking the question on here. I've now found the spec we want, ordered the materials and my joiner is here fitting them at this very moment. And I can tell you this information is not readily available online because in the UK window companies want to do the whole service from start to finish which means to get what we want, was unaffordable. Therefore I've had to spec the windows myself, order and get them imported myself and then make sure they are being fitted in a way that makes my investment for high spec windows worthwhile. This info is guarded which is why I was asking on this forum.

Thanks, we have brick skin. We've used fire socks around the cavity, standard cavity closers. Externally, expanding weatherproof tape, low expansion foam for thermal insulation in the middle and then an airtight vapour tape internally..

Not trying to answer your questions but just thoughts that came to mind when reading your posts.
Will the window supplier still honour a warranty if you don't let them do it as they want to. Aren't you supposed to get sign off paperwork from a regulatory body with those sorts of windows ( is it FENSA or something like that ). Not something I am familiar with but it just jogged a distant memory.
Would that affect furure sale of the property.
