Bosch washing machine cycle taking too long.

Hi all, I have a Bosch wab24161gb/05 washing machine. It has started playing up in that. -,when you start it,let's say choose programme 57 min it's taking 3 hours to finish. Its stops on 1 min and continuously working like it's just started, when you press the button for speed then gives you another 40 minutes and after that finishing.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

I would check the heating element for starters. The 1 left in the display is just a fault message.

Check pump , it will never finish a cycle if blocked or not pumping .If it reaches 1 minute but repeatedly attempts to redistribute the clothes, an unbalanced load can prevent the final spin , unbalanced load can interfere with proper spinning/draining.

A rinse cycle works okay - will try doing a cold wash cycle to see if that works okay to see if it is the heating element that has stopped working. Thanks for the pointers guys.

If you have a smart electrical meter which pulse a LED at 1000 pulses per kWh, you can use it to easily check if the heating element is working. Before starting the W/machine ensure any big users like electric kettle, cylinder immersion etc not on then have a look at the pulsing LED, it should speed up when/if the heating element is energised, you can actually measure the element power if interested, start your "stop" watch after any one pulse and stop it after counting say 20 pulses, note the time in seconds, the element power is (3.6Xnumber of pulses)/time in seconds, ie, if it takes 36 secs to pulse 20 times then the element power is, 3.6X20/36, 2.0 kWh.

It might do no harm to get a idea of the pumping out flowrate during say a rinse cycle by removing the hose and putting it in a bucket, you will then get a good idea of any pump/hose blockage problems.

I don't have access to any electric meter unfortunately.

On a cold cycle it works but doesn't rinse,it's spin only the first water which comes and not changing it.

I think John means your homes meter do you have the old type with dials or numbers that have to be read. You may have more than one fault but did you look at and check the google suggestions

It doesn't give an error as such, like E21 for example when the carbon brushes needed replacing.
There doesn't seem to be any problems with the door as that is what the top hits on the search suggest. So is it likely to be heating element, pump or something else?

If you havn't access to the house meter or if its "non" smart then you can buy one of these very accurate energy monitors for ~ £15 and just plug int in to the socket and plug the (any) appliance plug into the monitor, it displays the true power in watts as it takes the power factor into its calculations.

Other than the heating element and/or pump.. what else could be causing the problem or is it time to replace this machine?

tip the washer back and make sure the leads are still conected to the heater they burn off
all so the relay on the module get dry joints

Would taking it off and cleaning it with contact cleaner/acetone or alike help/work?

Doubt it. You need to check that it has continuity. A multimeter is the easiest way but you say that you can't access one. Have you been trying the cycles with the drum empty or full of clothes? Put it on a spin only programme and see if that works as it should.
