Mosquitoes - treatment

Excuse my ignorance but I always thought mosquitoes were like flies, in the sense that they fly into the house and eventually leave. Clearly, they bite too!

I’ve been reading that mosquitoes lay eggs and settle in the house. If this is the case, what treatment/devices should I be using to address this problem?

I’ve been experiencing mosquitoes overnight for the past 5 days. Never had this issue previously in the UK!

I’d be grateful for any advice you can provide.

Depends on your definition of mosquitos .
There are about 4K insects that qualify.
They mainly need water to lay eggs.

No, not unless there is something unusual going on. Don’t believe everything you read online!

Mosquitoes spend a long period as larvae, which live under water. They eventually emerge as adults. Unless you have somewhere for the larvae to live in the house, they are just flying in through an open door or window.

Should I be using any product to help with the overall situation?

It might be just one mosquito.
Find it and dispatch it.

Close the window at night (or net the opening).
Have a look at where they're breeding (open water near the window)

Unlikely, unless they're splashing about in stagnant water.

It's not been used for over a week. I thought it might have become fertile ground for these blights to breed!

We had a spate of them a few weeks ago. 4 or 5 in the bedroom at once. They were killed and then we shut the window. But hard to keep that up in a heatwave. There will be stagnant water somewhere, and they might well be looking for water in the house to lay eggs if it's a desert outside.

They breed in any stagnant water, birdbath, blocked gutters , buckets left out which collect rainwater , even a puddle which doesn’t dry out ,they don’t need much water , an inch will allow breeding .

You can't any more than you can eradicate ants, have a can of fly spray handy and check ceilings and light coloured walls before bed, I have electric fly killers in bedrooms

Quite possible if the pools not been in use, water doe not have to be stagment.
