What is weather compensation?

The Midea is a bargain at the moment. With perhaps only the AUX unit offering better value and that's debatable.
They do play very well with the Passiv controller which takes a lot of the setup headache off the installer and homeowner but as you already have your controller I'd stick with it.

It's definitely not the worst, you should try NIBEs setup

We had homely initially which is very similar to passiv.

I couldn’t get on with it. The algorithms didn't really work and it also did my head in that it locked down the settings such as max outlet flow temp. In our case the installer has set it up with a max outlet flow temp of 45 which wasn’t sufficient to keep our house warm on the coldest days and the only way of changing it in homely was to email them.

Just using native controls has been much better in terms of comfort and efficiency. Home assistant directly integrates and lets me customise what monitoring and control options I want. With a bit of help from AI to write the code for the dashboards.

I trialed setbacks versus just leaving it running all day at a steady indoor temp with our old gas boiler and even with that, the savings were minimal.
I know with my mother central heating (only one with a modulating boiler) it was not the savings, but the fact it kept the room at a steady heat with no hysteresis.

But it took a long time to set up the lock-shield valves, I slowly closed the valve, until the current temperature on the TRV never in winter exceeded target, and once done, the other advantage is we did scolding hot radiators. But when I tried to do the same here with an on/off boiler, it simply did not work. Also, the 5 eQ-3 heads only show target and do not show current.

But last house, I hardly looked at central heating control, it worked, so did not need to alter, except for when we changed the bulbs to CFL we found in the evening we were colder, as no inferred heat from the new bulbs, so the old thermostat changed to a programmable one, so set warmer in evening.

This is of course quite important, we have never had a home with a static temperature, it has always changed day/evening/night, so time to change has always been a consideration.
