It explains my childrens ability to read at a very young age. My youngest was reading fairly fluently at 2 years of age and that was achieved using flash cards. He would read long words such as television or congratulations with ease. I was told that the young child recognised the shape of the word rather than reading it. I think we adults do the same with really thinking about it. Confirming your theory.
