Crack in ceiling caused by my foot in the attic

Hi Guys need some advice.

I was in the attic clearing some old junk out when my foot slipped and hit the landing ceiling plaster. Now the ceiling has a 5-6inch crack it. It wouldn't look so bad but one side is flapping over the other by a few mm. If I could get it level then I could just fill it.

- The house is under offer, I think the buyer who is an investor is planning to do a loft conversion as it has planning permission. The buyer did have a very brief look when viewing so I could just leave it and pretend he didn't notice it

- Try to get the two ends of the crack in line by pushing the plaster up. It's overlapping by a couple of mm. I tried pushing it but was worried I might make it worse. If I could get the plaster level then I could just fill the crack and paint it.

Any advice

you could scrape back the edges of the break so they go level and leave a bigger crack. you can fill the crack easier if it is a bit bigger. If it won't stay up while you are fixing it, a trick is to push a flat board up with a pole wedged against the floor, and apply matting and thin runny plaster from above. Or you could wedge in a batten above between the roof timbers

I am assuming this is plasterboard, there is another way of repairing lath & plaster ceiings.

I agree with John. Scrape back the edges so they no-longer overlap and simply fill the groove with polifilla.

but the overlap is so so small.

Could I not just push the plaster so that it goes back in place.

Also forgot to add the ceiling has artex through it's not of any particular pattern.

If I was in our attic, and my foot slipped damaging the landing ceiling plaster, my crack would have the wife's size 5-6 boot in it. Ouch....

hi, about the crack in the ceiling!! you could apply a palm sander to the surface to level it out, ( be sure to wear goggles and a hat ,ie base ball cap etc,) there will be quite a bit of dust, so dont over do it!! then you apply a small strip of joint tape/mesh this is a mesh type tape. then apply a small amount of artex to the area ane try to texture it to the surrounding finish, ie use a cloth wrapped over by polythene/bread bag etc. PS, dont forget to dampen the surface prior to applying the artex, or you could paint it with emulsion and apply to the surface the next day.
