heat exchanger repair

This all seems very odd!

If you are the installer then the manufacturers should have had it sorted out ages ago!

Furthermore, most manufacturers would want the old one back so they can inspect it and claim back from the makers, un modified that is!

Because its a stupid question

Nothing stupid about the question, but your answer is another matter.

moliver34, is this a primary heat ex? If so what about system leak sealer, alternatively an epoxy like JB Weld.

Your answer seems very poor to say the least oilman !
Get manufacturer out end of, mess about with boiler and invalidate the warranty, simple

To even attempt a botched repair under warranty is simply incompetent

Most of them shut down and go into hibernation over the Christmas period. (Along with most of the country)

Repairing a pin hole leak is hardly a modification.
The customer wants heat in his home. A temporary fix will acheive this.
What would you do ?. Stuff some chewing gum into the hole and hope for the best ? Then leave the client without an operational boiler ?

You could try some chewing gum also. You never know it might work.

And even more incompetent to walk away and leave the client/s with no heat when a simple repair is all that is needed.
They could be elderly or in poor health in which case given recent temperatures an operational boiler could be life saving.

A phone call to the manufacturer is all that would be needed and photograph the defect before you effect a repair if you have any doubts about them standing over the warranty.

Although i agree in principle with you Balenza, Im interested to know what temporary repair you would implement to save the old folf from hypothermia.

PS, this is not a challenge just interested

Well TicklyT has already given the answer but failing that I would buy the client/s some wooly jumpers. :D
Perhaps the OP will confirm what method he has used. :D

Balenza wrote a more polite reply than you're going to get from me. You could try thinking before you write such drivel. Not a doctor are you? I can do all sorts of things to keep a customer happy when there is a warranty problem. Just takes a phone call to the manufacturer. I am probably the one the manufacturer calls anyway in most cases, but even if I wasn't it still just takes a phone call, only Worcester has been a pain so far. As a result I don't recomment their boilers anymore. (Hope they're reading this).

Well i agree the wooly jumpers are an option   I would try scouring the pin hole area with tip of file to form a key, clean with scotchbrite and then superflow, heat the affected area and drop tin solder over it. Of coarse after telling manufacturer of my intentions of remedial fix until replacement.

Hello moliver34, could you let us know which boiler it was?

Not neccesserily on here but may be in the gas installer section of DIYNot or on ARGI.

fortunately; I do not have to come on here very often; :(

The sort of negitive reply; just what you need isn't it 'Jonsyrs,'
I just wonder what trade your in, probalby a dentist

As explained I could not leave the customer without heating or hot water...The manufacturer had agreed to a tempory repair;

Its now fixed and working....with a replacement exchanger on the way from Ireland...does that give you an idear of the manufacturer!

thankful I will not have to visit this site again, so you can argue amongst yourselves......from now on.

Oh dear, I am a corgi registered business. I only use boiler manufacturers that have a decent reputation such as my business. To use a manufacturer that you have to wait this long for is not very good is it?
Of course with the manufacturers permission by all means attempt a repair, but why get in this pickle in the first place moliver? Are you a builder of some sort?(just kidding)
If I was the customer in this situation waiting this long I would want some discount for the poor service.
Cheer up and maybe use another boiler manufacturer. :)

Ok Jonseyrs.......wow an corgi registered engineer.....dont get many of them on here

If you you do gas then you probably know bugger all about oil boilers....take it your not oftec registered as well :) :)

See.you get Corgi [& Plumbers] guys...think they know it all about oil boilers, cause they work on gas boilers; but they continue to tinker about with oil boilers they know nothing about...Im not corgi registered; so I dont touch gas boilers....never ever! :!: :!:

I just had to come back on here to see what 'sh-t' reply i had got from you.

Bye bye :P

Apart from jonsyeres who seems to be a bit like bambergaspipe, you did get a few pointers. It would have been handy to know what repair you made, and why post here and then storm off? There seems to be a lot of this sulking going on on several of the forums. Everyone knows who the plonkers are, so what's the problem?
