Here's a piccy I took an hour ago. Something I'm sure most of you have been faced with at some time or other.

Sure, you're allowed to put your foot down, but what use is that on a single track road covered with mud & gravel?

BTW, that's not cotton wool suspended with fishing line, it's snow!

60mph is a limit.

not a target

Yes, I know!

But on most roads with this signage, you can easily drive at the limit. Not on this one...

My point being, there is no point having that limit on that road because it is quite obviously unachievable (unless you're a rally driver & there's no-one heading the other way!)

What about this and can you see the white handrail bridge? See 2nd photo

when you cross over the bridge you must slow down to 30 mph  This is in Rayleigh, Essex

But its not a limit, its a lack of a limit, and therefore the NSL applies

Perhaps as its in the middle of no-where with no kids to run out, etc, there is no need to justify a limit other than the NSL (which would cost more, as you need repeater signs)

If it was a problem with people doing 60 down there and having head-ons every week, someone would come and put a restriction on it.

Theres a road like that near here, single width dirt road with passing places and NSL, quite straight, can be quite good to go down late on a summers evening when you don't keep having to pull over to pass stuff :)
