Hi,

Would it be normal or standard or indeed nessesary to fit a drain valve at the lower end of the feed to a direct vented hot water cylinder.

Many thanks!

normal, good practise.
but with a direct cyl you may have a d/cock screwed it a tapping on opp side to cold feed

Don`t use a cheap draincock otherwise you are just wasting your time as by the time you go to use it ,it will be seized or if it isn`t it will leak when undone

to be honest have not got a clue about the part number its by experience and sight , Most merchants do cheap and dearer draincocks, go for dearer which have a gland nut,
Also if soldered type take insides out when you solder and only replace when cooled and dont do either type stupidly tight as this will cause washer to stick.
I am sure someone will put a picture on later

Thanks for your advise, as the hot water cylinder sits 14" or so from the floor on a frame, and is a 28mm feed from the cold water storage tank, I will use a 28mm x 28mm x 15mm tee on entry to the cylinder (not allot of room between entry to the cylinder and wall), run a short 6" or so length of 15mm copper to the underneath of the framework and then fit the drain valve, this way if it were to seize or leak, I could cut off and fit a new one with easier access!
