Can somebody please look at this diagram to see if I interpreted the diagrams in the Wiki correctly? I am going to carry out this installation in my toilet

D'oh!, wrong labelling, it's that copy and paste feature when you forget to change the text. The grey wire label should read: Neutral

I take thats a 2 gang switch?
You need to sleeve the black and grey cores with the correct colour sleeving for their purpose i.e. black sleeve brown and grey sleeve blue.
You won't need to use terminal block for the permanent lives, there is a nice terminal on the back of the switch which should easilly accomodate 2 wires.

No, the idea is to switch on/off the fan and lights always at the same time, so it is meant to be a 1 gang switch. Hence the connector block but I do not know if there are 1 gang double pole switches that have a terminal that allows me to avoid the connector block

A douple pole switch incorporates 2 individual switches which operate at the same time, the only downside is they are normally labelled L and N whereas you are requireing 2 sets of L.
Another option you can explore is to use the FCU to feed the light and fan, use a separate 3 pole isolator to allow the fan to be isolated for maintenance.

I see, but I thought that if I used a switched (double pole) fused connection unit (labelled FAN) this could be used to isolate the fan whilst leaving the light live. The thing about the double pole switch, is I could put the brown sleeves on the wires and re-label the terminals "live" but would this be allowed?

Alternatively I could use the triple pole isolator, as on this MK diagram

but I would need to re-arrange my wiring in the toilet
Finally, I thought I did not have to use a ceiling pull switch in a downstairs toilet
