Extending an existing garage

Good morning folks, first time here so be gentle

We have a detatched, brick built single garage which I want to extend in length.

Could someone please explain what type of foundation & base I would need to provide and the depth and compostion of it?

I've heard that the foundation for this type of garage is no different to the foundations for a house

Also, I'd like some idea of the costs I could expect if, a) carrying out the work myself and, b) getting a groundworker to undertake it.

why not go just a bit deeper than the existing footings - what's good for the goose..... .

unless of course there has been some movement to the existing garage?

digging is not a difficult task, just hard work. the trench will need to be 200-300mm wider than the wall being built upon it. this allows a 100-150mm toe of concrete each side of the wall.

the minimum thickness of concrete should be 225mm.

225mm, would that be the thickness of the slab?
And what DPM would I need to install?

225mm is referring to the strip foundation thickness.

use 1200gauge dpm under the floor slab.

how is this progressing. Did you get it built. Am thinking of the same myself. Single brick garage, adding approx 12 feet to the length.
