I'm now not convnced it is the donut leaking. If i feel the back of the sytern it feels really wet, even the front, kind of condensation? or could water be getting through the ceramic itself? It feels wet to touch.

i cant recall your other posts, but i take its a leaking toilet...what you describe could well be condensation...dont let it fool you, u'll get it on the pot and the pipe (untill its the same temp as the room)....unless u choose to use hot water !!

Its a new bathroom with no window. I'm about to install an extractor, should this go close to toilet as possible. Would vents in ceiling help move air around? Can't really get the hot water to it now.

  no...only joking about the hot water...
the extractor should go above the bath or shower or near them...they produce the steam....condensation, when using the toilet under normal house use should not be problem, its the constant flushing, while looking for a leak!!, that makes condensation worse cos it makes all fittings etc cold and the room moisture hits it and turns to water

2 ideas occur to me, lift the systern lid.
take some water out and top up with hot water.
put one of those toilet bloo blocks in, it would show up a leak, or even food dye?

Great idea! but now i'm sure its condensation as it just feels to wet. Only noticed it today. I don't have a door on the bathroom yet so air is getting in/out.
The feed is direct off of mains and pipes do feel cold/wet too.
Would lining with polystyrene help? Would it need to cover all the ceramic?
Is there any paint or such like the inside could be coated in?

no solution that i have heard of....but trust me, most of the time it not a problem. when you are only flushing the toilet every other hour or similar, the cistern does not get cold enough (i have seen some exceptions) and the condensation wont happen
