Hi all!

I've been looking at the forums for a while now and have found myself drawn in like a moth up a drainpipe.

I've been DIYing for a few years now, but I've got a new challenge... a 1920s semi, solid as a rock but slightly less modern than a rock. It's in good condition, but the small oversights the previous owners made in their home improvements have become major bugbears to me now. Things such as...

1) Central Heating pipes surface mounted and hidden in big ugly chunks of trunking
2) only one double socket in each room
3) wiring surface mounted and then wallpapered over instead of chased in
4) cheap and very nasty kitchen. Ewwww.

The fabric of the house is fantastically solid, and the garden is absolutely beautiful though!

I've just installed a proper loft-hatch to replace the A4-sized slot that was there before, and I have received all the materials to board out the loft (including 4x2s to run at right-angles to the current ceiling joists). After that my next major job is a rewire... As it's going to be a big job regardless of what I do, I've decided to go all out and try to fulfill all my needs and desires (at least those involving copper buried in the wall). All in all, I've got nearly a mile and a half of mains, network and signal cable to route and terminate... aaah c**p.

I've spoken to some helpful officers at my LBA regarding notification, and I've bought my 17th edition! On-site guide still not delivered though...

Good luck with it all.

There are some great guys here and you will get some good advice and help....

G.
