Rain-sensor autocloser for top-hung Velux window - any suggestions?

Can anyone suggest a basic rain sensor autocloser that I could retrofit to an existing top-hung Velux window? The only ones I can see on the Velux website are for centre-hung windows. Ideally, the window would be opened manually, and close automatically if and when it rains - so no need to...

What is causing this UFH rattling noise - any ideas?

It's coming from our underfloor heating circuit, probably in the ceiling void between the ground and first floors, and is amplified by the pipes passing through a cavity wall into our garage (where they then drop down to the UFH pump and manifold near ground floor level). It's a rapid rattling...

How to insulate an airing cupboard's external-facing wall?

Thanks. Should I leave an air gap between the celotex and the cold wall?

How to insulate an airing cupboard's external-facing wall?

28-30 degrees centigrade, in our case.

How to insulate an airing cupboard's external-facing wall?

We have an airing cupboard where the right hand side is constructed against an external brick cavity wall (uninsulated). There is a 40W electric cupboard heater at the bottom of the cupboard, which ought to be enough to keep everything nicely warm. However, the air temperature doesn't rise above...

    Noise from GRP flat roof

Our roof used marine ply - square edged *not* T&G. And it still made noises. I'm no expert but I wouldn't expect there to be too much movement along the joins between the ply panels if they are properly attached to the wooden joists/fillets or whatever. Isn't it more likely to occur where...

    Suggestions for lighting

Beware - even "warm" LED lights can be as cold as a Vladivostock fish canning plant on the nightshift. Traditional incandescent picture lights - or warm fluorescent tubes - hidden behind a vertical wooden strip would be much cosier.

    Buying a Sofa

Why not go to the seller's house, compare their door size etc with yours, and have a go at moving the sofa to see how well it works?

Can using dishwasher tablets cause blocked drains?

We stopped using powder in our washing machine a few years ago because it was regularly blocking our drains. We switched to liquid (Waitrose essential, plus Comfort fabric conditioner). But I still need to rod/jet them about once a year, removing long chunks of white, waxy blockage. The...

    Noise from GRP flat roof

Based on my experience, I'd say give it a year or two and see if it settles down of its own accord, before doing anything drastic/expensive.

Should I use GRP to repair leaking fillet on concrete roof?

Thanks for the advice folks. For the record - in case anyone can benefit from a review of my experience - I decided to use Acrypol+, on the grounds that it was the simplest solution. The best price I found, with next day delivery, was from an online UK roofing superstore. This worked out...

Should I use GRP to repair leaking fillet on concrete roof?

Our garage flat roof is made of 100mm thick concrete (1950s) which tends to leak where it butts up against the side brick wall of the house. I repaired it 15 years ago with a 45 degree mortar fillet about 100mm wide (front surface) - but now this is leaking in a couple of places from cracks...

    Noise from GRP flat roof

FWIW we got a GRP flat roof as part of our extension, completed late 2012. During the summer of 2013 we heard regular loud bangs of the sort described as the roof cooled down on hot days. The good news is that during (what passed for) summer 2014, we have heard no more noises, which suggests...
