To PVA or not to PVA

oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear. I applied the PVA (a 5:1 mix Wickes PVA to water), the day before tiling. All seems to be ok - so far. I hope it is all ok. It all looks good. I do however have another question and I do not know if it is a "tiling" question. I have to apply the kitchen...

To PVA or not to PVA

Hi Thanks to the advice on this site, I successfully completed my first ever tiling (about 3 months ago), 26 sq metre kitchen diner floor, over ply and concrete, and no movement in the tiles, no cracks, and no obvious sign that I did it myself. I should say that it took me four days ! I also...

    Security Screw Help

Hi chaps Apologies for not replying back sooner. Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately the remaining screws are proving a nightmare to remove carefully, without destroying the fixtures. In most cases the screws are recessed inside the fixtures, so tightening your drill chuck around...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

I am going to be tiling this week, and I forgot to ask a few things; The floor tiles are 440mm - so what size spacers should I use ? I also have to tile round the kitchen, above the worktop, like a splashback I suppose, using 100mm tiles, should I use the same flexible adhesive and grout...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Thanks for that advice Gcol. Glad I checked first. I have one more question, more to do with aesthetics than the actual mechanics of tiling. The skirting board has yet to go on. Would you tile right to the edge of the floor, then put the skirting board on. Or skirting board on now...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Guys Is it ok to tile straight onto the terracotta tiles ? Or is there some preparation to do before tiling ? I have been advised that I should rough up the terracotta tile surface with a quick rough sand, but I don't know if this is right. Also is it ok to tile straight onto the ply ...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Thanks Gcol If you don't recommend slc on timber, what would you recommend ? The difference in floor height is 2-3 mm in places, in some places it is bugger all. And many thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Aaron

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Hi guys Thanks for all your info. We have selected the tiles from Tile Depot. Can someone provide me with a "shopping list" of exactly what I need for the slc, adhesive and grout. As there seems to be several different products that appear to do the same thing. I'd like to use the...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Guys Thank you for all you rreplies. I realised that I should have stated - that I laid the 1/2 ply in the dining room to bring the dining room floor up to the level of the tiled concrete floor in the kitchen. Gcol - where do I buy an expansion strip ? Will I get one where I get the...

Laying Floor tile in Kitchen / Diner

Hi Diyisfun There is a slight difference in floor levels between the 2 floors. And the terracotta tiles are almost level (only a wee bit out really), so I was advised to use the slc on them. The ply base is also only slightly out, surprisingly. I hope this makes sense. cheers Aaron
