Will check the wiring. Forgot to mension the pendant fitting is actually a bayonet type with a screw cap converter fitted to take the bulb. Never seen one of these before, can you fit them the wrong way round and therefore cause live to be neutral and vice versa. i.e. turn it through...

Hi, I have fitted an extractor fan to my bathroom in a 3rd storey flat. The problem I have is that the grille that is fitted to the outside of the wall is just a fixed vent and does not have the flaps to stop wind blowing back through it and into the room when the fan is not running. Due...

    Sealing round windows

Unfortunately the windows were fitted by the local council before the property was bought so needless to say the sills are not a good fit to the wall. There is about a 5mm gap round in some places so I think i'd be better to try and seal it first before paint. Thanks people, Alan.

    Sealing round windows

Hi, I have removed all the old silicone sealant between the window frames and the windows as I want to renew it before painting. I was told a while back that caulk could be used to seal the gaps but I have tried this and every time a small crack appears when it sets. The caulk I bought...

Renewing sealant round interior of window casing

Hi, I am going to freshen up the paintwork on the interior of my windows. I want to cut out the old sealant and replace it then repaint the wood. Would decorators caulk be ok to use as i'd guess silicone would not be good for painting over? Thanks.

    Quick Question about bath traps

Hi, I will be fitting a new bath, which did not come with a waste trap. I have been advised not to get one of the shallow traps as they can sometimes let smells come back through the system, and instead to get one with more depth. My question is, where can I get a regular trap, my local...
