    Electric cooker....just attach a wire?

AT LAST! Somebody who I hope can explain these "design overload characteristics" of MCB's. BR & FWL spoke on such issues before but i could never understand. I think it was meant only for the ears (or should I say eyes) of high fluting electrical engineers. :) How did you calculate this where...

    SELV

Two issues i was wondering about: What does SELV stand for? Is it possible to get plastic surface box with a 20mm conduit knockout like the steel ones? If you were to drill a 20mm hole in a standard box, how exactly would you go about it? Thanks, Declan.

    cable

i dont have a drum for it. It's not flex it's cable and has the rubbery stuff inside the outer insulation unlike flex. I have also seen it used for socket outlets in commersial premises. If that helps. I would imagine it is more expensive than standard T&E

    Question

This might sound like a silly question, but it's just something I wondered about. I have seen houses which have been 'first fixed', and where cables enter mounting boxes, ceiling roses etc., a little outer insulation is removed from the end of the cable (with the edge of a side cutters for...
