    Complete breakdown of material costs

I'm the same - I plan to put rubble in my pockets and let it drop out as I walk, as per The Great Escape

    Complete breakdown of material costs

Thanks pilsbury - that's exactly what I was looking for! I knew there had to be someone else out there, with an addiction to spreadsheets

    Complete breakdown of material costs

I just wondered if anyone had posted a comprehensive breakdown of their costs for an extension? And I mean a spreadsheet of everything from bricks, blocks and wall ties, to roof timber, tiles and nails. I appreciate that every project is different, but it would be really useful to see some of...

Why a guideline for 1m from boundary?

I'm planning a two storey side extension and I'm wondering about the "1m from boundary" guideline which seems to be mentioned, when discussing planning permission. I appreciate no neighbour wants an extension butting up against their property. In my case though, I'm on a corner plot where...

Keep same roofline or lower, and cut into wall

Thanks John. No I don't mind a step down - could make a feature of it in the kitchen, and it would be on a landing upstairs. Sorry, to ask a stupid question, but which one are you suggesting would cost more / require more detailing / be more inclined to leak or crack ?

Keep same roofline or lower, and cut into wall

In the planning stages of a two storey side extension, where it will sit on slightly lower ground (400-900mm) than the main house (live on a hill). I understand that local authorities sometimes prefer extensions to be subservient to the main house but I've been told by an officer (at a...

Fixing bath filler and shower head to a stud wall

If I understand your question, they seal against the tiles (is that what you meant?) The shower head has a washer (see pic) but having read other threads, this can be pretty much discarded (as there will be no way to get behind the stud wall to screw it on)

Fixing bath filler and shower head to a stud wall

Unless I'm confused about what packing plate is, wouldn't that just put the filler & head further away, and hence have an even shorter length of connector?

Fixing bath filler and shower head to a stud wall

OK, it looks like the rotation issue is resolved. There is a way to loosen and rotate the connector to the required place. Still can't work out how to get the right depth though. Any tips?

Fixing bath filler and shower head to a stud wall

I know this has been asked, and I've searched in vain for the exact right answer I'm afraid. I've built a stud wall (against an exterior wall) to house pipework for a valve, bath filler and shower head. The valve seems simple enough as there's some degree of flexibility in how far the taps...
