Hi all,

My mums central heating is on the fritz. When you switch the heating on, a valve next to the immersion tank has a little plastic arm on the top which goes back and forth a few times, then stops, and the wireless Honeywell controller downstairs gives an error code "F:04".

I'm not going to dive in to try and sort it unless it's very basic, but some advice as to what it might be would be a help.

Cheers,

Eddie.

it's a honeywell smartfit low voltage controls.
you need to fit a new actuator.
(thats the black top box with the white lever on top)
use a screwdriver and you can seperate it from the brass valve body.

when you get the new part ask for part no ML7300A
that pushs straight onto the brass body.
and push the cable connector into the slot on the control box.
(they are the same plug as a bt phone cable) take you all of 10 mins todo.
you can pick them up for about £35.00

Honeywell smartfit installation...
F4 fault is 3 port valve jammed, either seized or the actuator isnt travelling fully.

when the lever is throwing backwards and forwards the actuator has gone inside.
and you can't test these with the actuator off as they work on resistance.
you can only check the paddle is free

don't need to look at the fault codes
as he has stated it throws backwards and forward, which is a faulty actuator.
you can check if it drives for at least 10 secs i agree

f.04 can also be a fault in the control box not detecting the resistance on valve which i've had in the past but it doesn't state that in the instructions until you phone them then they decide to tell you.

the fault codes are a guide they don't state every fault that can occur

Mine is doing the same - moving back and forward. However, the error code is intermittent - it will sometimes work for a couple of days, then come up with the code again. I switch the control box off then on again and it resolves it for another day.
Does this sound like an actuator problem or control box problem ?

Any help greatly appreciated :)
