    Water pipe behind switch

They were probably not insulated and wrapped as they ought to be.

    Water pipe behind switch

Bit hard to explain but basically no. Well I could run it visibly up the wall or box it in but that would look naff.

    Water pipe behind switch

The pipe will be run there as i can't go anywhere else. A deep enough chase has already been cut. I dont have to put the switch and cables there (they could be put a couple of inches to the right) but if it helps protect the pipe not?

    Water pipe behind switch

I'd put a warning label inside the back box with a diagram..

    Water pipe behind switch

Is there any rule against having a water pipe buried in the wall directly behind a light switch and cables? Its a hot water pipe, but the lighting cables dont need to shed much heat do they? Also the pipe would be suitably insulated and wrapped. Having the pipe in line with the switch should...

    Unstable wall?

I would probably use steel straps like it the photo above, position so the 2 rows of holes are straddling one of the internal ribs. I'd do a test drill to make sure it doesn't just shatter the brickwork. Then use bolts going through the entire wall. Although the alternative of sandwiching post...

    Unstable wall?

Well it doesn't visibly wobble when I whack it with my hand, and I needed a sledgehammer to demolish the part I've already removed. But I'm weak and skinny. It just looks dodgy to me, but I probably wouldnt notice if the end was plastered over and I couldnt see the brickwork. How strong does...

    Unstable wall?

The photo below shows the cut end of a wall that is about 1m long. It isn't supporting anything above it. Before it was cut, it was buttressed by another perpendicular wall a couple of metres further towards the camera. But now I'm a bit concerned that it's going to be weak, because its quite...

    Core drilling near footing

Is this referring to the Part H bit about pipe misalignment, or something else?

    Foul waste and open gully

I have started taking things apart now and excavating. Unfortunately I will need to break up the concrete surround of both the gully and the inspection chamber, and temporarily remove them, to have enough room to line up the core drill for the wall. As this is, I may decide to relocate the gully...

Cheers, hope the answers are in the same order as the questions!

    Core drilling near footing

I want to core drill through the cavity wall, underground, for a soil pipe. Due to the depth and location of the existing outside drains it will be very close to the footing, practically resting on it. It will need to be about a 150 mm opening. Is this a concern for structural stability? DIY-able?

    Foul waste and open gully

Good to know, although I don't even think I could get even a normal 90 in series with the existing soil stack elbow - not enough fall. Forgot to take one earlier, but have updated my sketch (see previous post). Does this help?

    Foul waste and open gully

The WC waste won't discharge above the open gully (lol). The gully is above the waste pipe. This cross section sketch might help. Edit: updated with better sketch. Underneath the gully is a 90deg elbow (confirmed( which I propose to replace with a swept tee (blue in sketch). The top invert...

    Foul waste and open gully

Can the foul waste from a WC go on the same underground drain as an open gully? Basically the the gully would drain directly into the foul waste pipe? Hope the sketch below shows what I mean. Black is existing, blue is new. I can't send the WC drains to the SVP because there isnt enough fall...
