Can I just buy a ring mains tester from eBay or somewhere and test it myself? Is it just the type that's plugged into a socket and beeps etc if faulty? Well hopefully once tested that's the end of it, thanks very much for everyone's help.

As it happened I couldn't get hold of a 40A so I bought two new 32A and fitted. Cut back and cleaned up wiring to socket's MCB. Just showered and no buzzing from C/U anymore. I don't have a ring mains tester though so should I get an electrician out to check? Also why would the socket's MCB...

The only thing I can find wrong with my untrained eye is the wiring to the ground floor sockets MCB that is shown in the pics above. I can't remove the wiring from it so I'm guessing that needs sorting either way but would it be the problem with the shower?

The shower is the second single MCB from the left. So 6mm wiring? Worth trying a 40A as the screws all seem tight?

Is the above post relevant at all?

If I took the cover back off the shower and took a photo of the wiring to it would that help knowing what size cable I have or difficult to say from a photo?

It's never tripped out or misbehaved at all until yesterday, sometimes being used three times a day, they're not short showers either. It's not tripped out yet just makes that buzzing that comes and goes dependant on if the MCB is being pushed up or not. Is there a way to find out what wiring...

So would it be worth me trying a 40A MCB? I do remember something about when the new shower was fitted it was a slightly higher rating than before, maybe the old one was 7.5kw. A plumber fitted the shower, but I asked an electrician friend of mine about it and he said it might 'nuisance trip'...
