Thanks all. I hadn't realised that this was an example of the infamous "dot and dab" tiling technique (the Tile Association even has a warning about this on their website). OK for plasterboard of course but never for wall or floor tiles. I insisted it was redone properly and fortunately the...
Hi all,
We're having our bathroom re-fitted and on inspecting the initial work I've noticed the wall tiles (standard size subway tiles) are being applied in what appears to an unusual way (at least to me). As can be seen in the photos attached, the tiles have been applied to the wall (plywood...
Big-all, thanks again. Possibly, could attempt the ply around the edges, might have some issues with service pipes running underneath. Will try to post a picture later today-- washing machine fits in pretty snugly in closet so hard to get a clear photo of the floor area.
thanks big-all, when you say remove the flooring do you mean the insulation and concrete screed? The chipboard sub floor has already been removed and we fixed the ply over the insulation down into the concrete base.
Thanks--the back wall is the party wall (block cavity wall), left side wall also blockwork. Right side wall is just stud partition. However, there is some pipework running out of the back and left side wall (as this was originally the boiler closet)

The closet previously housed an immersion tank (removed when...
Hi all,
I'm trying to decide what the best technique would be to fill in a roughly 3 inch wide, 3 foot long gap in the ceiling skim coat in my kitchen (see photos). The gap is due to the removal of a long double tube fluorescent light fixture (replaced with a pendant/rose fitting as seen in...
Thanks for the response. To be honest, I had suspected that was the case. This makes me a bit suspicious of the firm that proposed it (even though it's a very large, reputable plumbing/CH co). They also told me that I could just use a plume kit to raise the height of the flue whereas British Gas...
