    paint spillage on new carpet

Disaster. oil based gloss paint on carpet. Huge patch. We've cleaned it up as best as we can but we're just going to have to replace that section of carpet. We've got some carpet available and we're going to cut out the section with the paint spillage. As the spillage went right up to the wall...

thanks for the suggestions, It's one 800mm cabinet I know there are no studs in the section of wall the unit will sit (the electrician ran in a channel for cables with no studs showing) the rail looks just whats required & we'll try and back it up with a piece of plywood to spread the load over...

Venting Potterton Promax combi HE A boiler

the reason I asked was because the manual refers to another vent that is on the pump as an "auto vent" but the other vent next to the flue (which is the one I'm asking about) is simply referred to as "air vent" so we weren't sure if this other vent next to the flue is an auto vent because it...

Venting Potterton Promax combi HE A boiler

We've replaced a faulty diverter valve. The manual says the primary circuit heat exchanger air vent must be opened when refilling. How do I open it? There's only a small black cap that comes off of what we believe to be the auto air vent (at the left hand side of the flue). Is this...

    which adhesive for marmoleum

Is there a reason why forbo nairn insist on using their own adhesive to stick down marmoleum other than just wanting to sell you their product. Can you actually use any flooring adhesive? I read that you shouldn't use any solvent based adhesives with marmoleum. thanks

    plywood flooring

I've laid plywood flooring over chipboard in the kitchen. It's all screwed down but wondered what I should be sealing the joins between the sheets of plywood with - if anything. I'm putting vinyl flooring on top. The screws that I've used have gone beneath the surface of the plywood so they're...

my walls are made of straw how can I plaster them

Hi KenGMac, that's the word I remember the plasterer using. Stramit. You're right, the wall above the bath is covered in wall tiles but it is all open and bare from the top of the bath down to the ground. I know the plasterer who did the kitchen used some kind of pva coating over the stramit...

my walls are made of straw how can I plaster them

So we've taken out an old bath in the new house that we've bought. House was built in 1974 and this is the second wall that we've come across that is made of straw. That's right. Straw. What on earth are you supposed to cover it with. The wall that is exposed is behind the bath. Do we need to...

thanks Misterhelpful. Picture 1 and picture 2 are both in the same room but on different walls and both used to be pink!! the third one is in the living room and it's maybe just the lighting that makes it look a nicotine yellow :( It's kind or more of a cream colour during the day and thanks...

    blown vinyl or anaglypta

here's some pictures of 2 of the rooms. In the first two the wallpaper has definitely been painted over but the walls are all shiny so I don't know if someone has painted them over with gloss paint instead of emulsion. The final 2 pictures are in the living room and this wallpaper has not been...

    crawl space smell

thanks Nige F. Took up the chipboard flooring in the kitchen which I think is the source of the cheesy feet smell. It had water stains on it and was a bit warped. The crawl space is covered with a black tar like stuff which I'm told is a damp proof barrier. I'll look at replacing the...
