    Type of flue

Hello, Round at least 5" maybe 6". Not sure on volume. In the loft I can see a 4 foot by 6 inch cement chimney facing me. Yes there is a gas point. I'd certainly not DIY. We do have a shared chimney with 2 pots. It looks like a precast flue to me. What else might it be...

    Type of flue

Hi, I've a terraced house built in 1969, that I believe use to have a back boiler. This is long removed now. My question is what flue do I have? It appears to be sectional concrete 6" pipes. It doesn't go straight up but goes into the a joining wall. There is also inside the fireplace a...

    Loft structure questions

Hi guys, From the photo below would you believe both the horizontal and vertical supports are required? 3 sets in the loft. Has anyone converted a loft with these in and what steels if any where required? Thanks Dan

Artex stipple - stipple pad or roller to get this effect?

I thought I'd update this. In the end I couldn't get anywhere near the same finish. What I did looked nasty. So I have 2 coat skimmed the ceiling. 1st time ever i've done it and it looks loads better. Can't say its perfect but far better than what was there before. Thanks for the advice

    Moving stop cock

All done now. I used a 3/4" olive that fitted the alkathene pipe perfectly. It also had a copper insert that I reused. Standard 22mm compression reducer to the pipe. Thanks for the advice!

Artex stipple - stipple pad or roller to get this effect?

Thanks for the info, I'll have another go and see what happens. The stipple pad has rubber bristles but it doesn't give the same effect. I may end up just reartexing the whole ceiling.

Artex stipple - stipple pad or roller to get this effect?

Doh, so can you still get that? I think you can get ready mixed but I assume this won't be the same? What sort of roller would it have been applied with? Thanks

Artex stipple - stipple pad or roller to get this effect?

Cheers for the reply. I've just attempted to use a stipple pad but it gives too much stipple even when very watered down it just seems too thick. I think it'll need even more water but I can't seem to get a sparce drip pattern with the pad. Thats why I think it may have been a roller of...

Artex stipple - stipple pad or roller to get this effect?

Hi, I've got to patch up a ceiling that has a very watered down stipple effect as per photo. Do you think this was achieved with a stipple pad or roller? If a roller what sort? Also what is the best was to remove matt painted artex? Steamer or wallpaper paste and cling film? I only...

    Moving stop cock

Thanks for that guys. I was going pop the tiles up and SDS the floor. I'll be ultra careful with them. Have brother in law coming over in about an hour to price up the work. The new location of the pipe would be next to an internal wall anyway in the middle of the house. Thanks again

    Moving stop cock

Thanks for the reply. I think it is alkathene as it is more flexible than MDPE from what I know. I'll have a search

    Moving stop cock

Does anyone know? What would a rough cost be? I would dig out around the pipe so it would just be extending the 2 copper pipes from the kitchen and extending the main pipe to the wall. Thanks

    Moving stop cock

Hi guys, I'm looking to move the stop cock closer to wall rather than 2 foot from it. Also extending 2 pipes hot/cold that go to the kitchen extension. Please see the photos below: Other than turning off main cock in the street, draining down, breaking up floor should this be...

    1999 Zafira power steering noise

Hi, Last few days I have started to hear a whine when turning the wheel. To me is sounds like the power steering pump. I've checked the fluid and its full. I've never noticed the noise before so assume something is up with it. I've read that its not too bad a job to change. I'm not going...
