    I would think that installing a new joist would be the best idea! You can splice in new joist ends using resin bonding so that might be an alternative??

    Sorry i misunderstood bout the fibrous liner, i thought you meant it was fixed between courses of bricks not actually fixed to the brick face. Cant say ive ever heard of something like this im afraid :(

    Totally agree with noseall sounds like the midfeathers have failed and you will need to get the flue lined to prevent the gases going from one flue to another. Rob Critchley
