Switch Options for Low Voltage Lights

That's a bit clearer - apologies if I've been dim. So I could have : A switched FCU {13A} as the spur; supplying 2 further FCUs {5A}, (one supplying the hood and one supplying the LV transformer (via a chocbox and an architrave switch) Cheers. PS thanks for the reply on my shower/CU...

Oil Boiler Fumes - Chemical Warfare !

Thanks everyone, for the helpful comments.(mostly !). Pluming - I'm not clued up on this to know exactly what it means but it suggests something which would be visible ?, and that's certainly not the case. Mr Nice Guy - maybe I am, my neighbours are generally fine and a bit elderly...

Switch Options for Low Voltage Lights

Thanks All, Firstly - under unit lights do have the F mark so I am reassured in surface mounting them, so thanks for that. In the (very basic) leaflet, it does say "do not hard wire to mains", but I can't see any reason why not as long as I put in appropriate circuit protection and isolation...

Conduit OK or tile removal !

Sorry - forgot to mention that when checking everything over last night, realised the shower is actually 8.5Kw not 9.5Kw. I can now go with a 40A mcb, unfortunately measured up and can't fit the MK unit in so will have to get the Volex or Wylex CU. Any comments on the quality of either of these...

Conduit OK or tile removal !

Thanks, Buried trunking is the same stuff 25x16mm. The csa for 10mm given in the table is 121mm2 so you can appreciate why I thought I was probably OK ? B-A-S reckons 150mm2, - that's quite a big difference. Following your advice, I'm happy to upgrade the (surface) trunking that I...

Switch Options for Low Voltage Lights

Thanks, Never used grid switches - do they take a single power cable in, then distribute it to each switch (via separate fuses if required) ? So I'd have a grid switch panel with 3 units - A:power to the hood through a fuse unit (1) then a switch unit (2), and B: a separate fuse unit (3)...

Oil Boiler Fumes - Chemical Warfare !

Hi folks, Our neighbours have installed an external Oil Boiler in their backyard. The flue outlet is on the boiler which is situated very close to the boundary fence between our properties. (I've checked the OFTEC site and their installation does appear to comply with the outlet location...

Switch Options for Low Voltage Lights

Thanks SS, I'll check for the symbol as suggested. Unfortunately, the cooker hood socket is already a spur (from the cooker control). I like the idea of a proper wall light switch though. I've read enough posts on the limitations of spurs (fused or otherwise !! ) Is there such a thing as a 2...

Conduit OK or tile removal !

Thanks guys, I've done my homework now and tracked down a table which suggests I'll be OK (just). I now realise I should have been referring to trunking rather than conduit. I've used 25x16mm. Wall route is 1.5m vertical with no bends. Route in cupboard will involve 2 x 90º bends, 3m...

Switch Options for Low Voltage Lights

Hi folks, I have a kit of 3x20w low voltage lights and transformer which I will be installing as under-unit lights in the kitchen. No switch on kit. Power supply will be via a socket located in the cupboard above the cooker hood, (also supplies said hood). I want to be able to switch the...

Conduit OK or tile removal !

It depends upon whether your shower has heat settings or not. Many thanks, On reflection I should have guessed the response. Upgrading the MCB will only cost me £4 odds. I'm more concerned about having to rip out my tiling to get at the conduit. I'll do some measuring tonight and get back...

Conduit OK or tile removal !

Hi Folks I have partly installed a 9.5kw shower. I've run 10mm T&E (via 45A DP Switch) to the cupboard where the consumer unit is. I need to upgrade to a new CU anyway so will be replacing my 8 way - wired fuse type box with a 12 way split load. ( I'll be getting a spark to do this bit)...
