What are the best smart thermostats for flats? Nest? Hive? Honeywell?

My electrician has installed a 3 core hardwire for a wired in thermostat to be connected to my combi boiler. I have a vaillant ecotech boiler, and my plumber said he just needs 2 of the wires to plug into the ebus socket inside the boiler. I have no idea what thermostats I can use. I asked my...

My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles with SBR

Yes I read somewhere about Evo stick cleaner. Worth a try I guess. I just tried scrubbing it off with a stiff brush and white spirits and it's coming off.....I'm now wondering if my builder is actually using SBR and not PVA....

My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles with SBR

I would ideally like him to remove the SBR himself.... Just wondering if there's anything that I can buy that will take the SBR off the tiles and grout without ruining them.

My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles with SBR

My plasterer has ruined my new quarry floor tiles and the grout with SBR and waterproof render. Before plastering and rendering he covered the quarry floor in old 'protective' sheeting. However the SBR and waterproof render he used has soaked through the sheeting and dried underneath and onto...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

I checked with a party wall surveyor.....it's a party garden fence notice to adjoining neighbour. So unfortunately a 3m notice needed ... Lease also says I need to inform freeholder of 'party wall' matters....so another application. Never buy a leasehold flat again that's for sure....can't...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

I have 2 main neighbours - I'm in a lower ground floor flat that's part of a semi detached house. One neighbour nextdoor, and one neighbour (tenants/council) in flat above. So I want to fix a privacy screen to my external wall extending up by 1m to the tenants above wall, so I can attach a...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

I was hoping this might be the case. My freeholder is the council, and they drag their heels on everything. But I'm guessing I should serve the neighbour with a notice about digging into the ground and stepping sleepers down to lower levels of our shared brick wall?

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

The lease says permission is required to work on party wall structures.....but I'm not altering any party wall structures. I'm not sure if moving a retaining garden wall in my demise, is notifiable to my freeholder Apart from the new retaining garden walls, I want to fix a wooden privacy...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

Just to add that no new foundations are being proposed adjacent to the existing garden wall foundations. Just bedding for the railways sleepers.

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

Thanks for your replies. The garden boundary wall is at a much higher level than any shared building foundations, walls etc. Can I build some sleeper walls that step away from the shared garden boundary wall in a way that doesn't require a party wall agreement! I've attached a before and...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

Am I right in thinking the only way to check if Party Wall Notice needed is to find out the depth of the foundation? I think if you take a 45 degree angle from the centre line of the top of the pile / foundation, into your garden, then any area below the lines is party wall notice....... As I...

Building a new retaining wall next to boundary brick garden wall

My garden is at 2 levels. So I would like to excavate an area at the lower level to give me a patio at the same level as my living room. I don't know how deep the foundations below the existing garden wall are but the new retaining wall I want to put in is about 700mm away from the boundary...

Gas outlet / connection for cooker

How far would say this would stick out from the wall? Do you know the gas product. Once I employ a gas safe engineer I will get him to advise too. But at the moment fitting a cupboard before that needs to allow some space to the back for this gas outlet. And the existing one taking up too...

Gas outlet / connection for cooker

Hi I have an old gas outlet which I want to swap it out for a slimmer fitting at the top as it sticks out from the wall by about 90mm. I've attached a photo. Can anyone recommend what other gas valve fittings I can have fitted in the pipe, that stick out no more than 50mm? Thanks

Can I extend the power supply lead off my combi boiler?

I want to move my vaillant boiler to an area of the kitchen where there is limited no space left, right or below it, to put a fused spur and plug to supply power to it. The power supply lead on my combi vaillant boiler has been cut really short. Can a plumber / electrcian put a new longer...
