    Extractor fan wiring query

Just wiring live/neutral does nothing. I've adjusted the humidistat/timer, I've even boiled the kettle under it, no joy. My assumption was that if I loop the permanent and switched lives together, the fan would be permanently live, but would only activate within a given humidity range.

    Extractor fan wiring query

I have two Domus H1 extractor fans which need to be replaced. I have purchased two Manrose humidistat fans. The fans appear to be on the mains circuit, rather than the lighting, and they are currently wired to permanent live/neutral only. The replacements don't work when wired up the same, and...

    Step crack in cellar wall

I live in an 1890's end terrace which has a half cellar. The wall which separates the cellar has developed a step crack, spanning about 4ft in height. It follows the mortar, although one brick has split. The joints in the cellar are a little eroded at points, and I think the crack is perhaps...

No BT master socket...just an extension socket

The BT line in my property terminates into what is obviously a secondary extension socket, rather than a master socket. Probably been DIY'd on at some point. Phone lines work fine, broadband works fine. As such, I'm not sure whether to worry about it too much but 1) is it likely to be missing...

    Felt lap ventilation

Yes, seems fine cheers. Also, despite the strong winds, my roof hasn't flown off.

    Felt lap ventilation

Just an update. May be coincidence - change in weather or some other factor - but since the laps were opened, the loft has dried out over the course of about a week. Will obviously keep my eye on it, but for now, this solution appears to have worked.

    Felt lap ventilation

Really hoping to do it DIY - there's always a million and one things wants doing, so anything I can do myself is a bonus.

    Felt lap ventilation

Unfortunately, I don't have soffits. The fascia boards seem to be attached to the last course of bricks, with the roof trusses ending on the wall and just a slight overhang of tile. Ive seen fascia vent strips, but I'm not sure how easy these would be to retrofit.

    Felt lap ventilation

I'm having a problem with condensation in the loft - I've read all the stickies on this and other sites, and understand the causes/solutions. I believe that inadequate ventilation is the problem in my case, and probably has been since the roof was installed some years ago. It is concrete tiles...

Installation of new consumer unit - electrics to BS7671?

Thanks for the advice. Have asked for further clarification of what the price includes.

Installation of new consumer unit - electrics to BS7671?

Example of one of the quotes... Dear xxx, To supply and install a domestic consumer unit as requested, the total cost would be £280 + VAT. In order to install the unit, it must be ascertained that the existing wiring complies with BS7671 prior to installation. Regards Would you...

Installation of new consumer unit - electrics to BS7671?

And I'm assuming that such an electrician would charge to perform such a test and inspection - what kind of figure should I expect to see for that?

Installation of new consumer unit - electrics to BS7671?

I have recently decided to collect some quotes to update my knackered old fuse board to a split load RCD consumer unit. Prices are coming back fairly satifactorily, but I've been told on multiple quotes that in order to install the unit, it must be ascertained that the existing wiring complies...
