Hi all,
I was just prepping my bay window (house is 1960s with cavity walls) for a lick of paint. I removed a metal grill on the front to find a large hole had beed drilled in it, stuffed inside were at least 2 jay cloths... This can't be right can it?
Inside the bay we struggle with damp...
Hi folks,
We're getting new carpet fitted upstairs and I thought I would take the opportunity to try and fix some squeaky floorboards by screwing them down. I removed the carpet in one room and the carpet sales person suggested replacing the hardboard that was there before the carpet was fitted...
I have a similar issue but I am mid way through laying the floor myself (DIY). We had a new porch added recently and I naievely assumed that the screed they laid would be level with the hallway.
Now that that section of the porch/hall is laid (no skirting on yet) it has a horrible spring. The...
Yes, new front door so building regs apply (doing it now saves the hassle getting retrospective signoff to sell in the future), it is also >3m² so is past permitted development and required planning (part of a larger project from previous owners).
I get there is a reason for the rules but it...
Hi,
I'm currently mid-build on a 1.6m deep x 2.8m wide porch. I've been told by the builders that I can't put the door where I want to (very close to one edge) because building regs require a >600mm return. Something to do with making sure the wall doesn't get blown over. We live near London so...
Hi all,
I'm lifting an old wood floor to replace with engineered throughout the ground floor (old floor had to come out to make levels meet).
As I pulled up the boards some of the screed & whatever was under it has come up with the glue (really strong stuff!!!!).
It seems quite crumbly...
That's perfect! Thanks
In fact your suggestion nudged my memory and I found some in the shed that was there when we moved in 2 years ago. It feels powdery so I guess it is good.
However, in knocking off a few high lumps I noticed that the older ½ of it (it is poured in 2 sections) sounds hollow...
Hi all,
I am in the process of levelling a section (about 1m²) of my front room, I lifted the carpet and took down the stud wall that was put in after a chimney/fireplace were removed (and a steel put in to support the chimney upstairs). However it has left a nasty section of uneven floor where...
Hi Guys,
Looking to get a roofer's advice to avoid a potential roof collapse.
My house has been extended in the past with what seems to be a well done job (the far end of most of the pictures.
However they seem to have left a few old beams which have no function other than to support a TV...
Hi fellow DIY-ers,
I have a Beko DW603 that is acting up. The machine drains perfectly well but the cycle never starts. The drain just keeps running.
I have replaced the water inlet valve
I have replaced the main control board
I have tested the anti-flood device for continuity in the tray...
