    Radiator not heating up

Update: As suggested, I closed off all the other rads and the problem one then heated up OK! Then it stayed hot when I reopened the others, and when the heating came on again this morning they all warmed up. The whole system still needs balancing, but thanks for this short-term workaround!

    Radiator not heating up

Thanks - I can try that tonight. What is the intention? Is it to force through a minor blockage? Then once that rad gets a good flow into it again, it should hopefully be able to keep working after I reopen the others?

    Radiator not heating up

The small radiator in our en-suite doesn't seem to work since the heating has started up the past couple of weeks for the winter. It is pretty-much the farthest radiator away from the boiler and the one in the adjacent bedroom is slowest of all upstairs to heat up, but it does get there...

Toilet ballcock dripping for a long while after flushing

Thanks for the advice! This is the washer - around 33mm. I gave it a good clean - lots of black rubber residue came off and some gritty bits. That seems to have helped with the drip. If it comes back, at least I can look for a replacement. Are they easy to source?

Toilet ballcock dripping for a long while after flushing

Recently the toilet fill spout drips for a long while after flushing. It's not leaking - I can push the ball down and when it's filled another few mm the drip stops. So on it's own it's just not shutting off sharply - and it takes hours of dripping through the night to fill that last bit to...

Adhesive to fix chrome legs to glass table top

Update: I've given the car mirror adhesive a try. Seems to have stuck OK. It comes with a special fabric that acts as a bonding layer between the metal and glass - I guess it reacts to the adhesive somehow to form some kind of intermediary that sticks to both materials itself. Let's see how...

Adhesive to fix chrome legs to glass table top

Thanks for the replies! I happened to be passing my local Halfords yesterday, so popped in to get that Mirror Adhesive. It says on it "only for glass and metal", so I'll give it a try. It looks better value than that Araldite anyway, which is more expensive than the table is likely worth!

Adhesive to fix chrome legs to glass table top

We have of very minimalist nest of coffee tables. The tops are purely glass and are only attached in a "floating" style to the chrome-finish legs (actually just a square frame each side) by means of a small block both sides. So just two metal blocks each of an area around two square inches. So...

Grant outdoor boiler randomly turning on

Thanks for the reply - but unfortunately this doesn't mean muchto me - apologies for my ignorance! I wouldn't have thought the room stats or zone valves would have anything to do with it as I'm seeing this happening outside timer-on periods when the boiler shouldn't be active according to the...

Grant outdoor boiler randomly turning on

Have an outdoor Grant Vortex Condensing oil boiler which is randomly turning on from time to time, burning for a minute or two and then switching off again. I would be familiar with this behaviour sometimes in the winter if it's really cold as an automatic frost protection measure. But I don't...

Trouble getting smooth finish on ceiling repair

I'll admit I'm not very good at decorating, but I have managed fill in the odd wall hole, sand down and paint with satisfactory results. However, I'm having trouble fixing up a water-damaged ceiling. We had a leaking drain above which damaged about one square metre of plasterboard - some of it...

    Flaking on bathroom ceiling

I haven't specifically looked in the loft for any leaks. As I said - there doesn't seem to have been any dampness since the original patch formed. Which is the basis of my question as I'm not sure what would cause the primer to come away if it there doesn't seem to be any dampness. We don't...

    Flaking on bathroom ceiling

We have noticed in the past a small damp patch on our bathroom ceiling adjacent to the outside wall. It never got very big, so I wasn't sure if it was active or not, or caused by steam. After a while mildew formed on it, so I treated that quite vigorously with a suitable cleaner (it took more...

Double glazing: Ventilation vs Draft Proofing

Sorry Freddie, my wife has an aversion to even slightly open windows during cold months. And has a habit of closing the vents "to keep the heat in" too...
