    Kitchen Worktop

Hi, I recently had my quartz kitchen worktop installed but I noticed that it's not lying flat on the sink unit carcass. The sink I have is a acrylic and very heavy (23kg). I asked the installer if the quartz would sag over time if not supported properly but he said no. I haven't installed the...

Bent gas pipe with lots of joints

Hello, Recently the floor in my kitchen was taken up as part of refurbishment work. While it was up, I noticed that the gas pipe leading to the boiler (about a meter away) looks somewhat wonky. Is this a cause for concern at all? I've attached a photo. Thanks in advance

    Wood burning stove

Thank you John. Do you think I should call someone to apply the sealant or I can do it myself? Also, do I need to remove the old sealant first? Thank you so much

    Wood burning stove

Hi, thanks. I will get the fire sealant. The stove was only installed last.year. Why do you think it has come off already?

    Wood burning stove

Ah ok thanks for the tip. Is the fireclay cement important? As you can see from the photo it seems to be missing at the back, is the stove still safe to use?

    Wood burning stove

The alarm works but does not go off when the stove is in use. I was also worried about the grey stuff around the pipe. Where do you think it is coming from?

    Wood burning stove

Hi, Last year I had the gas fire in the living room replaced with a wood burning stove. It's been used a few times (5-10) since then but it's still giving off a somewhat unpleasant, artificial smell when in use. Also I noticed there is a gap between the pipe and the chimney cover. I was...

    Electric Underfloor Heating in Kitchen

Hello, I was planning to have tiles put down in my kitchen with electric underfloor heating underneath. The mains gas also runs under the kitchen floor however and I wanted to check it's safe to have them both in the same room. In the attached photo, you can see the gas mains enter the...

    Damp beneath living room floor

Thanks for the replys and suggestions all! :) I've uploaded a photo showing the kitchen step. That at least gives some idea how high the inside floor is above the ground outside. I looked for a (slate) DPC inside but didn't see any sign of it unless it is higher up the wall underneath the...

    Damp beneath living room floor

Thanks bobasd, Does the bottom of the wall actually need to be rendered like that? Would it be ok to just remove the rendering and leave the brickwork exposed? Right, I see the distinction. So the damp in the corner is more likely due to moisture in the earth under the house than rain water...

    Damp beneath living room floor

Hi bobasd, Yes, according to the building survey, they are. Do you think the damp is rising damp or is more likely to caused by the rendering or something else?

    Damp beneath living room floor

Thanks for the quick reply JohnD A plumber has inspected the pipes in the photos recently and didn't see any leaks however I'll double check. Yes that's right, the mains water supply comes in under the front door on the other side of the room and leads to the kitchen. There's no manhole on...

    Damp beneath living room floor

Hello, I've recently been having my 1920s end-of-terrace house renovated, including replacing the floorboards in the living room on the ground floor. When the old floorboards had been taken up, however, I noticed a patch of damp running along the inside of the external wall under the floor...
