Had a quote, does this sound right?

Hi all I have a small issue with my roof. Basically it's a bungalow and we have concrete tiles with felt underneath. the roof has leaked a couple of times this year and the roofer came today to give a quote. He said that the felt was degraded and he would need to take all the tiles off...

    Tiling over tiles!

Well apart from it being a bodge (there are plenty of things that reduce cost that I think are a bit dodgy), :) the old tiles were completely knackered because the plasterboard they were on had got drenched, the beams behind were rotting and it would have stayed up for about 2 weeks :)

    Tiling over tiles!

This didn't happen to me but a friend of mine just got a quote on her bathroom. She wanted a new bath, basin and WC fitted and the floor tiled. The tiles on the wall (about 2sqm) were shot and she wanted those removed and new ones put up. Cost? £3.5k. Bit high I thought. Then I heard that...

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Yes, thanks, that is a lot clearer. It's all so complicated :) Okay, so time to go back to building control. If all else fails then I'll get a new CU and a certificate that way.

Okay, that sounds like a good option! Thanks very much.

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

That sounds promising but when I spoke to building control they said that it's not their job to do a Part P or anything, they need the electrician to notify it otherwise they won't sign off the job. So the building control guy said that before he signs off the job he wants the certificate...

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Sorry, the district surveyor, the guy that's been coming in every day to make sure everything is being done correctly. (I'm also terrible with acronyms :) )

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Well yes, I did give notice to building control and we had planning permission approved but I hired the electrician directly as the builder had said that he wasn't certified. So I paid the electrician but as I say, after doing the work he did a bunk. If I remember correctly I paid some money...

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Would that work? The reason I ask.....I've spoken to the DS and he wasn't very helpful. He basically said that I had to get in touch with the electrician or he won't sign it off. Darn! At this point I don't really care what it costs, I just want to get it inspected and signed off. Perhaps...

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Okay, great. I was thinking of contacting him but then I got worried that it might all tumble down on me if he found out :) I don't want to be dishonest, if anything I'd be happy with a total re-wire to do it the right way but at the same time, I don't want to land myself in it! I imagined that...

Have an issue - Electrician has disappeared

Okay, I'm in a spot of bother. I've had a new extension built and have had new lighting and sockets on a new ring put in. The electrician I hired has done a bunk. The extension is finished and I'm ready to get the DS to sign it off. Unfortunately, the electrician ran off before adding some...
