Progressing conversion of a steel portal frame barn to domestic use. Roof is Trisomet insulated composite panels supported by steel frame via steel purlins. Walls are infill timber frame. Refurbishing Water Well to be drinking water source

I have a disused water well which I would like to refurbish and use as a drinking water source. Water test results indicate it just needs sediment filter and UV treatment. Construction is concrete pipe rings which are still mechanically sound but have minor damage leading to contamination from...

    Policing Ecology related planning conditions

My thanks for your thoughts - but I've now bitten the bullet and engaged an alternative ecologist to act as ECoW as others have confirmed that he does respond quickly.

    Policing Ecology related planning conditions

Yes I understand that ... I think my question is really - Where ecological appraisal has NOT identified any protected species and has classified the overall site as only medium significance, then if required working methods have been followed [in this case excavation of trenches for services...

    Policing Ecology related planning conditions

Exposed beams, plasterboard and fire regs

I am re-boarding a ceiling which has one very irregular exposed beam - which was mainly put there for aesthetic reasons. The plasterboard is fixed to floor joists which are perpendicular to this beam and there is no open fire or other ignition sources in the room. How do I seal the gap between...

Do building reg require plasterboard to be skimmed

Yes that would be the deciding factor. The project is a detached Barn conversion into a single dwelling - I'm trying to get as much info as I can in advance .... but on this question I guess I'll just have to wait until I can ask the inspector.

Do building reg require plasterboard to be skimmed

For the building inspector to signoff a project does the plasterboard have to be skimmed, or is it sufficient to just joint it, paper with lining paper and then paint ?

Gaps between Stramit board and oak frame

Fortunately it is only the outer sap wood which was affected, the inner heartwood [i.e. most of the thickness] of these timbers is very hard and solid - but your point is a very valid one -thanks for the reply

    Barn conversion - technical start

I am considering applying for PP to convert a 1980's vintage barn [steel frame, single skin concrete block walls, corrugated roof] to self contained domestic use. Making a technical start which has the minimum of external visual impact to keep the PP alive and then just keeping it as a long term...

Gaps between Stramit board and oak frame

I have one section of external wall which is old oak frame infilled [probably about 40 years ago] with plastic membrane & Stramit board which has been rendered and then painted . However there are now gaps between this infill and the oak frame which let in moisture etc. The surface of the oak...
