Thanks but that wickes board isnt long enough anyway, I need 2.55m to make one piece desk. I`ve found someone who can supply, going to give them a cardboard template around the corner so they can cut it to shape.

Thanks, think i`ve sourced some local mdf thats 3m long and they`ll cut it for me aswell. :P Also, just remembered I have a wall hung cabinet holding 1500 records, and supported by a wooden batten. Its been up there for 30 years, so just goes to show.

Think I`m going to go with the mdf route and a set of drawers about mid-way below the desk for extra support. My only concern is unless I can get some mdf that is 2.8m long and cut it out of a single sheet i`m going to have to join two sections together. Any ideas on the best way to do this...
