What should I repair the plaster with? I've seen a few people talking about BAL rapidset but isn't this a tile adhesive rather than a filler?

I like the idea of the hardiebacker boards but don't really have the extra depth to play with. How about a sand & cement skim - I should be able to do it myself and won't have to wait long for it to dry?

Most of the walls are like this - should I just get all the loose plaster off and get it skimmed? Is there a quicker option? Can I use plasterboard?

What do I need to do to this bathroom wall before I can start tiling? Thanks.
