    Locating a cooker control unit

My disclaimer firstly is I have no qualifications but am just thinking logically. 1) I would have thought that the aim of the cooker switch (DP) would be for emergencies - so much quicker to flick the switch to cut the power to the cooker than run off to the fuse board and find the right...

    Cable sizes

I'm in a top floor flat and so the wires run through the loft just lying on the joists along with all the other cables, for about 5metres before heading down to the cooker switch, so no more than 1.5 metres in the wall. Will have to check the MCB etc when I get home as I can't remember off the...

    Cable sizes

I currently have a 32A fuse at the board for the cooker/hob circuit which is run with 6mm cable. If this fuse were to be changed to a 40A (double oven and hob make 32 a close call - especially at xmas as everyone seems to want to point out!!) do I need to change the cable to 10mm. I know I would...

    Intermedite switch?

I am about to replace the sockets in the kitchen, but before I go out and buy them I want to check what sort of socket oneof them is. Basically the fridge and washing macine both plug into normal sockets behind the appliances and then above the work surface is a socket which looks the same as a...

    new cooker and hob question

Cheers guys. Never use the single socket for the reason JohnD says - the leads just get in the waay so will swop it for just a single cooker switch. Just happened to be what was installed by the original builders.

    new cooker and hob question

My old freestanding cooker has now gone and have a double oven and separate hob going in. The current set up is 32amp fuse back at the box to a cooker switch+single socket then down to the outlet behind the cooker. (all installed when the flat was built 15 yrs ago) The old cooker was a 8.3kw...

    Earthing kitchen sink

cheers guys. Thought it odd that the old sink had somewhere to attach the earth and the new one didn't!

    Earthing kitchen sink

I have removed my old sink which had copper pipes up to the tap and so the sink was earthed. I have a new stainless steel sink which has no where to attach an earth cable to it. Is this normal? The taps will be connect via flexi hoses but would have thought I'd still have to earth the sink...

    Another cooker chimney question

Cheers. An isolating switch will be easy to put in and I thought it might be best. The existing socket is the 3pin sort but the hood doesn't have a plug on it. Just thought it may be easier to add a plug to the hood than change the socket to a fused spur.

    Another cooker chimney question

New Cooker chimney hood going in and the old socket (three pin type) that was put in by the builders for the original integrated hood will now end up inside the new chimney that I am installing. Is this safe or does it need removing? If it is safe can I make life easier and put a normal plug...
