    Aquapanel fixing pitch

The instructions for fixing Aquapanel, say to fix using screws at 20cm centres, at the top of the wall, bottom of the wall and to battens at a 40cm pitch across the boards. It says that because shower hardware is often in the centre of an 80cm section, that this may involve using 3 battens...

    Heating won't switch off

I have a fairly new Tempus 7 controller (3 months) and a problem has recently started happing where the radiators stay on despite the controller saying that they are off. Changing from the timed setting to 'off' makes no difference and I have started turning the power off as it seems to be the...

Would you lay a damp proof membrane?

That was the same feeling I had about reducing movement. I already have the wood cut, so I am sort of tied to 6mm board, but I plan to screw it down every 30cm and 20 cm at edges and corners. It is a small room and there is a toilet pan bolted to it too.

Is it ok for copper pipes to pass through concrete?

Does the plastic coated copper pipe look a different colour or is the coating thin and transparent? Would I definitely know if my pipes were coated? Tony, You mention tiled over access panels. I was hoping that by laying ply on the panels and cement it would aid access in the future if...

Would you lay a damp proof membrane?

The panels were put there so that the pipes could run in the air rather than through the concrete floor. If I screw the panels down I would have to take the tiles up to get at the pipes (not that there should be any reason to anyway). Else I could just lay the plywood and rely on the...

Is it ok for copper pipes to pass through concrete?

I heard recently that the lime in concrete can attack copper pipes. However, I see that one of my radiator pipes appears to pass into a concrete floor. Is this good practice? It does not go for far, before rejoining the routing of all the other pipes that pass through wood and then run in...

Please help settle a debate - would you screw plywood down?

My father and I had a debate earlier, whether it is correct to screw a 6mm sheet of plywood to a concrete floor which has wooden panels covering the pipes or to leave it unfixed. The ply will then be covered with ceramic floor tiles. He was of the opinion that screwing it down would make it...

Would you lay a damp proof membrane?

The panels just allow access to pipes under the fllor that connect to wall radiators. In the normal run of events there should be no needto get to them. This is not an underfloor heating system, it is just the pipes supplying the radiators on the wall.

    Copper pipes going green

Is it just unsighly when copper pipes turn green on the outside, or do they degrade to any significant level?

Would you lay a damp proof membrane?

I am laying tiles onto 6mm plyboard fixed down to a concrete floor with wooded access panels that allow access to underfloor heating pipes in my downstairs cloakroom. I plan to seal the edges and the faces of the plywood. I see that it is possible to buy a 3m x 4mm 1000 gauge damp proof...

Yet another question about plasterboard jointing sequence

i have just put the second board up and it fits perfectly without a gap. there is a very small step though. shound i purposely leave a gap or is it best to get it as close to the oher board as possible? in addition to looking ok, is expansion an issue at all? Regards, Kera

Noggins, noggins, everywhere, but not where I'd like them!

Thanks for the reply Roughcaster. I could use the existing noggin locations by cutting both sealed edges off the middle board reducing it to 79cm and cutting the top one to 74cm and the lower one to 78cm. Does it matter if the noggins I use are inboard by say 5mm relative to the studs or...

Yet another question about plasterboard jointing sequence

I have two questions that I can't see a definite answer to elsewhere. 1) Do I let the first application of jointing compound filling the gap between plasterboard panels dry, before the tape goes on embedded in the compound? It is clear that the tape will need to dry before applying further...

Noggins, noggins, everywhere, but not where I'd like them!

I am about to replace some plasterboard in an alcove area in a downstais cloakroom. I removed this as it seemed easier than getting the tile adhesive off, as I saw recommended in another thread. The back wall is 1170mm wide by 2310 high. There were full width noggins 1/3 and 1/2 of the way...

Expansion gaps between plyboard sheets under vinyl

I am about to buy some 6mm plyboard sheets to put over a mixture of concrete floor and wooden access boards for getting to the plumbing in a groundfloor cloakroom (I was going to lay ceramic tiles but felt it was a bit too permanent in case I ever needed access to the pipes). The room is only...
