patio edge - how to retain?

Hi, I am looking to build a patio off the house, but the lawn area is lower than that of the finished patio height by 20cm. Is there any specific method for retaining the patio/mot1 along this edge? I've been racking my brains, but can only think of either: A couple of courses of brick (how...

    2 different falls on patio

Struck lucky on Google and found the answer! It looks like my hunch was right, I need to "fold" the paving at the junction of the two falls. Hopefully answers the question for anyone else with the same query in future. Ref: https://www.pavingexpert.com/corners_01

    2 different falls on patio

Hopefully someone may be able to help - I want to have a wrap around patio/path on the house (see diagram) but if I have the fall from one end to the other i'd end up with a 197.5mm fall at 1:80 which is ridiculous! Can I have the fall in 2 directions? I have added red arrows on the diagram to...

I've Used Kiln Dried Sand for Laying Pavers

It depends on whether you mixed the sand with cement to bed the slabs? If so, I can't see it being a problem, it will still bind as with any other loose mortar. If not then as Woody said, may be best to re-lay them. Personally as you've done all the work, I'd just keep tabs on it, when/if it...

    Patio quotes

It depends on where you are in the country as to whether £45 is a good price - I'd bite their arm off! I had quotes (East mids) for levelling and laying 70 sq meters of indian sandstone paving and the quotes were well over £20k! Well out of my affordability, so have had to have a go myself.

Decking same height as paving & mice!

I am in the process of putting in a block paved patio in the garden, but the missus wants the path around the house that leads to it to be composite decking. So far so good, however, we have a problem with mice in the garden and I don't want them/rats nesting under the decking. Is there a way...

Will a boiler service introduce air into Heating system?

Ok, thanks for this. I have re-filled the system and will keep an eye on it. Hopefully it was the service that introduced the air and not a leak!

Will a boiler service introduce air into Heating system?

It was a full service, took circa 45 minutes. They removed some parts in the boiler (I don't know what exactly) during the process and re-fitted. The boiler is on the ground floor in a utility room. Most of the upstairs rads had quite a lot of air in, and a couple of quite isolated (end of long...

Will a boiler service introduce air into Heating system?

I had the boiler serviced a couple of weeks ago and have since had to go around and vent all the rads for trapped air. Is this a coincidence or is a boiler service (Ideal Logic) likely to introduce air into the system does anyone know? Cheers.

Bath waste into toilet soil pipe...

Thought I'd give an update - I hate looking at threads and there's no (potential) resolution! I went with Muggles' advice and used a reducer directly into the tee and it has been working fine since, so thanks again for your help.

Clay soil pipe to plastic - 90mm

I'm a bit late updating this (better late than never though!) I managed to resolve the issue by using a standard 100mm connector and used scissors to trim the rubber/plastic fins down by about 50-60%. The connector then with a bit of encouragement pushed into the clay pipe and has been working...

Clay soil pipe to plastic - 90mm

I've got clay soil pipe at ground level that a toilet needs connecting to, but the internal diameter is 90mm. Standard plastic drain connectors are 100mm, including the plastic/rubber fins at the end that fits into the clay pipe. How do I connect a pan/drain connector to the clay? Thanks

Mist coat has left a chalky finish, final cost flaking/lifting

Hi, The Crown tin says up to 40% water for a mist coat - I kept it well within the recommendation but it just doesn't look right. (Is that how a mist coat should be?) I wouldn't trust painting over it, if I run my hand up and down the wall, there's a chalky pile of paint dust on the floor...

Mist coat has left a chalky finish, final cost flaking/lifting

Did you ever find solution to this? I have the same problem, the mist coat 25% water to 75% crown trade emulsion has left a chalky flakey finish. I'm in the process of washing it all back off with a sponge and water. Don't know what the next move is? The surface is still quite dusty, do I use...

Bath waste into toilet soil pipe...

Ok, thank you. My only concern is with effluent being flushed and blocking the 40mm waste, I'm guessing it would just go in the direction of the fall and sweep of the Tee? Also, would I need an anti-syphon trap on the bath? The soil stack is about 1 meter to the side of the toilet so don't know...
