What is this? And is it structural / supporting in any way?

All, I've had a search around the forum, but I haven't found anything that answers what this is, and whether it is structural or supporting? The bit I'm referring to is the lintel abutting the ceiling, between the walls of the hallway, with corbels underneath. I've linked to some images on...

    Luminous lime mortar

Cheers for the advice, I've ended up buying some brown Powder Mortar Tone (1kg pack from Toolstation), I'll see how that looks and post some pics. I'll also try the Liquid Weather on some other patches of bricks that don't currently match-up, cheers for the suggestion

    Luminous lime mortar

I'm trying to sort out some repointing that I've done. Any advice on colour matching would be really appreciated. I've repointed using singleton NHL 3.5, using a 1/3 mortar to sand mix. It looks absolutely luminous compared to the original. Now, I understand that it will always look brighter...

    Pointing with lime mortar

If this thread is still active, I have exactly the same problem. I've repointed using singleton NHL 3.5, using a 1/3 mortar to sand mix. It looks absolutely luminous compared to the original. Now, I understand that it will always look brighter then 130 year old mortar, but is there any...

How to fill void around tile-over shower tray going into non square corner

Hi all, Quick question re a tile-over shower tray I'm installing as part of bathroom renovation... I have a Marmox square tile-over shower tray that I'd like to put into a corner of what will be my new bathroom, unfortunately the walls of the room meet at an angle that is slightly larger than...

Can I reduce the number of holes in wall for plumbing waste pipes?

Understand that the work is BC notify-able, our building officer is a good guy and we've had him onboard for most of the work already. He's previously mentioned that he's happy to review plans/drawings and give feedback, it's coming up with those plans/designs that I'm working on now. In doing...

Can I reduce the number of holes in wall for plumbing waste pipes?

Thanks for the tips on this one so far. I'm just getting around to doing the pipework, should happen next weekend I think. With the point about pulling traps in mind, does anyone have any advice on how I can design the pipework to avoid the issue of pulling the traps of connected waste water...

Can I reduce the number of holes in wall for plumbing waste pipes?

Sorry for the basic question, but when you say "pull the traps of each other"... Does that mean wash water from what was past the trap, back to the other side, creating smell etc in the room? Or something else? I wonder if it'd be safer to keep the boiler waste/overflow etc separate? 3 holes at...

Can I reduce the number of holes in wall for plumbing waste pipes?

Thanks John D, so I think we'll go for: Waste pipe A through wall Which inside room combines Sinks, Toilet overflow, boiler condensate/overflow. So 3 waste pipes (which will almost never be used simultaneously) together Waste pipe B through wall Which inside room...

Can I reduce the number of holes in wall for plumbing waste pipes?

Hi, I'm renovating my old (Victorian terrace) house, putting a bathroom in a room at the top at the back of the house. In doing so I need to run some pipework for waste water etc out through a wall to the stack. We will have 2 sinks, a washing machine, toilet (so overflow), boiler, bath and a...

Replacing a suspended floor in Victorian house

Hi Mr Chibs, Yes you're right, in that picture is the solid single skin masonry wall I'm attaching the hangers to. There is an external wall on the one side of the room and a dividing with neighbours on the other. So there are effectively two cavity walls either side of the room, the internal...

Replacing a suspended floor in Victorian house

Hi all, Thanks for the advice so far, I've managed to strip out the floor and reroute the pipework. I'm now ready to install the new floor. Bit of context, as you can see from some of the pics, the brickwork is not in great shape...

    Wall preparation in new bathroom

Thanks for the info Adam182, I think yours is a pretty comprehensive approach. I may well need to repoint the brickwork if I take off the concrete render, but that might not actually be a bad thing as the masonry is a little loose in places! (Definitely needs sorting before I redo the floor...

Replacing a suspended floor in Victorian house

Yes I thought the more info the better! :-) It's is the whole floor sitting on the dodgy header yes, 10 joists in total. The room is 3.7m x 2.4m, so not huge but should make a decent size bathroom once done. Cheers, Matt
