New build basin inlet plumbing confusion

Ah okay, that's good to know. Any ideas why the cold pressure would suddenly fail on a non thermostatic mixer tap?

New build basin inlet plumbing confusion

Hi, I'm in a new build and there's an arrangement behind the hand basins I've not seen before with a valve that actually connects between the hot and cold feeds. I can't work out what this valve does. See pics. I'm assuming it's a more recent regulation as I've never had it in any older houses...

    Insulation Slab Sizes

Hi, Why are wall insulation rockwool slabs sized at 400mm / 600mm etc when that is normally the measurement of the centres? Wouldn't it make more sense to be 355mm / 555mm or something? If you put 400mm slabs in a 350mm gap is it going to bowed too much and not a neat fit? Thanks, M

Wood Hardener as End Grain Treatment

Fair point. It's actually Siberian Larch so it's not tanalised and was planning to let it weather. I have a little ronseal decking end grain sealer but even the clear one has a greenish tinge. I guess the hardener might still leave the timber porous?

Wood Hardener as End Grain Treatment

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone has any views on using a Wood Hardener (Tetrion, Ronseal etc) as a cut end grain treatment for decking boards? It seems like it would be more effective even than a water based end grain treatment but that might just be my feeling! Thanks

Decking joists on concrete beams for low decking?

Fair enough pal. Do you reckon the wider base risers like: https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/wallbarn-universal-adjustable-pedestal-for-decking-and-paving-height-35mm-to-50mm.html Could go directly onto the old compacted hardcore or is it going to need slabs laying down for stability...

Decking joists on concrete beams for low decking?

Hi, I'm planning a decking patio. 6.5m wide (decking running across the width), 2 to 2.6m long (joists running this way). The joist spacing will be 400mm so there will be 14 joists wide. I'd considered using risers/pedestals - the really low ones - as I have a level access patio door (new...

Plastic gully to clay trap outside drain

Should have also said, I'm wanting to install a drainage channel to run into it and I'm assuming I can connect it to one of the side inlets on a hopper like this ^^^

Plastic gully to clay trap outside drain

Thanks for your reply. It's about a 6inch internal hole in the trap. Slightly oval from when it was fired (5.75 x 6.25") so would need a bigger connector. Not sure I'd have the room for a connector and a hopper so I'm wondering whether I should concrete something like this in:

Plastic gully to clay trap outside drain

Hi, I'm laying paving in the yard and am tidying up the surface water drainage. The existing clay gully that feeds into this clay trap was badly cracked and leaking. Have cleaned out and inspected the trap and there are no cracks so that will save me digging up more than I need to. However, are...

    Stoptap conundrum

I reckon I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out but I'm completely stumped with this. So here's a water inlet conundrum for anyone who can give me a clue(?)! I am getting the kitchen prepped for a delivery whenever this lockdown ends. Next to the working stop tap I've found an older...

New kitchen pipes in service void

Yep, I was thought I'd probably do that. Just wasn't sure if I was being dense! Thank you :)

New kitchen pipes in service void

Hi, My new kitchen cabinets will have a 40mm service void. Perfect for 1.5" waste pipes? Well yes, except that all the pipe clips I find have about a 15mm standoff. Are clips that hold flush tot eh wall available? Thanks

    Extractor fan behind cupboards

Okay thanks peeps. So it's pretty established that insulating is a far better option than airflow?

    Extractor fan behind cupboards

The sides of the units are full depth with a back board set in. All units would be connected by the vented space behind the kickboards. Plus, had planned to make cuts in the side panels to allow extra air flow. Hadn't thought of that, but wondered whether having a fuly vented and extracted...
