Dot n Dab, wet plaster or battens for levelling a wall ?

I need to level one wall of my living room - wife wants a ( purely ornamental ) fire surround fitting, and the wall behind it isnt straight or level, so putting it against the wall will leave gaps around it that look awful. Our house was seemingly built during the great spirit level famine of...

Hot water problem - not very hot & taking ages to heat u

The cylinder looks pretty old, it doesnt look as though it was changed at the same time as the boiler. So what are the options ? if it isnt a fault as such with the system, is it going to be case of getting someone in to update the plumbing and fit the valved etc... needed ?

Hot water problem - not very hot & taking ages to heat u

Am pretty sure it is a gravity system. Checking the paperwork, the boiler was installed 24/11/04 - but the house was empty for over a year before we moved in, so the boiler has only had around 18 months use - not sure if the installation date would make a difference to the regs ? On the...

Hot water problem - not very hot & taking ages to heat u

There are 4 pipes coming off the boiler. There was a room stat on the wall of the hall, but this also wasnt actually wired up to anything. As far as I can tell the boiler was replaced a year before we moved in, but the rest of the system is all older. It look as though whoever installed...

Hot water problem - not very hot & taking ages to heat u

To cut it short, have bought a house that has a Danesmoor 15/19 oil fired boiler installed - is only 18 months old. For the first few months we had lovely scalding hot water all the time, but unfortunaltey discovered that this was because the immersion was permanantly on, leading to a HUGE...

Quick question about spurs / FCU

Yes, boiler ( oil boiler ) isnt hardwired into the mains, its plugged into the double socket. Its the same plug that was used when the boiler was fitted, and when it was checked and services a couple of months ago, so think it should be fine as the fuse in the plug is protecting the boiler.

Quick question about spurs / FCU

Thanks, as the socket for the boiler will be in a cupboard, am planning on fitting the FCU in there are well - as it will only be running the two nearby sockets it should be easy enough to find in the future if there was a fault.

Quick question about spurs / FCU

Am redoing the kitchen and need to add an extra double socket on the other side of the room ( so putting it into the existing ring would be awkward ). This is in a bungalow, so all the wiring is in the loft. I already have one spur ( from the main ring ) which is running the socket for the...

Can you connect two lighting circuit lives to one fuse on cs

So even though the one fuse will in effect be covering two circuits ( albeit one will only have one light on it ) this is OK ?

Can you connect two lighting circuit lives to one fuse on cs

Further to my earlier post about replacing the wiring on the kitchen light with proper T+E so i can earth the new metal fitting and switch... Is there any reason why you shouldnt add the live for the new cable into the existing fuse for the old circuit on the consumer unit that is already...

Can you add lighting connection to mains ring ?

Thanks both - changing the light switch cable is easy enough as its a bungalow and the cable just runs down a plastic conduit in the wall, so its quite easily assessable from the loft. Might be easier for now just to run an earth to the main fuse box and get it done properly once the place is...

Can you add lighting connection to mains ring ?

As per title - wife has bought a new light for the kitchen and its metal so needs earthing. The house has 60's wiring so there is no earth to the lights ( yes I know it should all be replaced, and it will be in the near future ! ). So, other than running a seperate earth from the main fuse...

Can I connect bath from sink pipework ?

Thanks both, the boiler is a gravity one not a combi one. Not hugely bothered about it taking a while to fill :) The reason I had thought of upping the bath pipes to 22mm was that I had been told that this would give a faster flow ?

Can I connect bath from sink pipework ?

Have bought a new ( old ) house and want to fit a bath as at the moment it only has a shower ( the sort that just has a cold water feed ). As far as I can tell the only hot water feed into the bathroom is the one connected to the sink, which also has the cold pipe as normal. What I am...
