I need to level one wall of my living room - wife wants a ( purely ornamental ) fire surround fitting, and the wall behind it isnt straight or level, so putting it against the wall will leave gaps around it that look awful.
Our house was seemingly built during the great spirit level famine of the early 60's so none of the walls seem to be square or level ( all walls are block and/or brick, no studwork ).
What would be the best method ? the wall needs replastering anyway, so would it be possible for a plasterer to get the wall properly level using just plaster, or would it be better to re-board the wall, either using dot and dab, or battening the wall first and attaching to this ?
The room is pretty big, so losing a bit of space by reboarding isnt a problem.
Thanks
Mike
