self levelling compound to raise hearth

Thanks, why does it need to be moisture tolerant? (genuine question!) It is for a fireplace on the first floor, cheers

self levelling compound to raise hearth

Thanks, I should add that the fireplace won't be used. It will just be decorative! So the "fireplace" is now just an opening with new lintel fitted and boarded up inside. I just want to have the hearth and interior floor of the opening tiled Good idea about the cement board, I'll take a...

self levelling compound to raise hearth

Hi I've opened up an old fireplace and want to tile the hearth and the inside (floor) bit. I want the tiles to sit approx. with the finished carpet level (the carpet is not fitted yet) Can I use self-levelling compound to 'raise' the hearth by say 10mm or would it not be strong enough? I...

    opening fireplace

Thanks. It's now opened with lintel, but I'm unsure if the bricks at the back (where they sort of slope to the brick work at the back) and the bricks to the side can be removed? The flue bends to the left if that makes a difference.

    opening fireplace

Hi I'm planning to 'open up' a small upstairs fireplace. Just to add a little feature and a bit of storage. Having never done this before I wanted to see if I'm going along the right lines... I think I've exposed the original brick work, at some point the opening was bricked up. I'm planning...

    stud wall

Hi I have a false wall between a bedroom and a bathroom. We are currently "doing up" the bedroom and as part of this would like to redo the false wall - to add some acoustic insulation and because it isn't straight. For the false wall is it ok to just plasterboard and skim one side (the...

    Understairs utility room ventilation

Thanks both Hadn't considered a dehumidifier option, although long term I worry about it actually being used! I hadn't considered condensation in the pipe, if a continuous extraction was running would condensation be an issue then? I'm not sure if it would be possible to have the pipe work...

    Understairs utility room ventilation

Hi I'm planning to convert an understairs cupboard into a utility room. As clothes will be drying in there I want to add a means of constant mechanical ventilation, however as the house is semi-detached, with the 'utility room' against the party wall, I was wondering how I could duct...

Subfloor ventilation via redundant back boiler flue

Thanks, that's very true but I'm planning to insulate an I'd rather have too much ventilation than too little. Can always block up the new vent pipe if it's too much.

Subfloor ventilation via redundant back boiler flue

Hi I'm looking to improve the ventilation under my suspended timber floor. Firstly, the air bricks have been replaced for newer ones with a larger free area. A back boiler in a chimney is getting removed soon, the chimney will be unused but still vented. However I was considering adding an...
