I have MDF door frames, and pine skirting and architrave.
I'm confused over what primer and undercoat I need.
I see Ronseal sell multi surface primer, which is ok for wood and mdf, but then what undercoat do I need?
I'm confused as lots of products don't mention if they are ok for mdf...
I need to pain the handrails, spindles and sides of the stairs I have.
They are new stairs and are made of pine.
I'm carpeting the treads, so I don't have to worry about the pine being walked on.
I would like a darker colour, maybe a sort of cherry or oak colour.
I'm struggling to...
Actually, just had a thought.
My boiler has the optional filling loop installed making it easy to add pressure (water) to the system. On the CH exit on the boiler there is a drain cock. If I can just isolate the boiler I should be able to flush the sytem using the drain cock (if I don't...
I'm adding a radiator to an existing boiler system that was installed last year (Worcestor 30SI boiler).
I'm trying to keep the amount of flux added to the system down to a minimum by flushing out most of the new pipework, but obivously when I connect the new pipe work to the old it will then...
I'll shortly be attaching some soundproofing board, namely the stuff below:

to my brick walls. The bricks are flat. What I want to know is the best way. The instructions suggest screws with wall plugs, which is fine...
I need to make a stud wall. And have one question:
When you have a sutd wall at right angles to a brick wall, does the first stud go tight against the brick wall or do you leave a gap for expansion?
Thanks,
I'm after a metal or plastic strap that has holes in it so I can nail it to wood. I'm sure something like exists, but can't seem to find it anywhere. The idea is it wraps around the pipe or insulation and then I can tack it onto ground level floor joists.
Does such a thing exist?
Thanks.
Round washer, I didn't think another washer would be needed with a big square washer on it.
Just started to think tonight if aswell as spreading the load is there another reason instead of just a very large round washer.
This is probably a stupid question but what is the purpose of square washers over round washers on timber?
Do the square washers have to be level against then timber, I.e. top of the washer is level and flat?
Cheers!
Moving an internal wall isn't a problem at all (as there are no internal walls at the moment - I've taken them all down to replace them).
I don't plan on having a dormer window, just the velux that is already up there (previous owner had an attempt at a loft conversion).
I really would...
One thing I wasn't sure on, is from what I've read you have have a ladder going up to the loft. I can't seem to find if you are allowed a vertical fixed ladder or not?
Yep, thanks for that. I'll post some dimensions up at a later date, but things keep changing all the time (small changes that make a big difference), such as extra step on the stairs etc.
It might be a good idea for view the loft conversion as an add on to the 3rd bedroom or have the 3rd...
