    Chimney breast lintel opinions please

True, more just the odd bit of rubble but I guess the hood will deal with that ok. I've seen people mention clean and sweeping the chimney before sealing it, if I put a vent brick in to keep airflow is this needed?

    Chimney breast lintel opinions please

My next question would be best way to block off the chimney and fit an extractor hood. Presumably get a steel plate with some insulation in there just above the lintel, cut out a section for a extractor and run a duct up, through the side of the breast and out the side of the house.

    Chimney breast lintel opinions please

Hello all, started to remove/open up the chimney breast in this 1930s house for a hob top. Breast is 1545mm wide Lintel is 1200mm wide The ends of the lintel sit on 150mm of brick This is the first time so unsure on a few things; 1. The brick work inside the chimney is only sporadically tied...

    First time electrics, full rewire!

Yeah i think we will revisit the kitchen lighting, I think still 1 main light but put extra spot lights as you said in the key areas. we will also be having under cupboard strip lights. Sockets aren't done yet, wanting to do 1 circuit at a time so i can learn and get my head around the regs and...

1930's Shell. What do i install?

That's great, i agree with it all. I've mostly planned for all of that already. I am worried about the condensation but i think as long as i clear out the crawl space and keep the air blocks free then ill need to look into some decent ventilation for the kitchen as the hob is going to have a...

    First time electrics, full rewire!

I haven't done a diagram for the rest of it yet but I will eventually do a diagram for lighting, network and power. I know where the sockets are going but presumed as they will be completely separate circuits It won't really effect one another? I think so regards TV room, normally when the TV...

    First time electrics, full rewire!

I'm not sure, I'd presume as I've got very easy access to the celling that looped at the lights would be easier or am I wrong? The centre lights will be quite large and the Mrs likes to use lamps so that shouldn't be a problem.

    First time electrics, full rewire!

The doors are a concern I've only done a junction box so that the centre kitchen light is tied in with the spot lights? surely there is a better way other than taking the wiring all the way back just to join up together? if that's all wiring wise them I'm impressed with myself haha

    First time electrics, full rewire!

Hi all, So I've just had an offer accepted on a dream home but its basically a shell and needs wiring, CU etc etc I'm currently an engineer but I will be retraining to become a domestic electrician in December so I thought why not get some practice in first. when it comes to the actual wiring I...

1930's Shell. What do i install?

What does that mean in layman's terms? I need to get bigger rads? We would have been going for daily large decent ones regardless? Also stupid question inbound but how does the whole building regs work? In my mind, if I get the keys to my house, go in and fit whatever I want then who knows it...

1930's Shell. What do i install?

I think we are getting a bit fixed on me maybe putting in an electric shower in an ensuite that I probably won't have built for another 5+ years

1930's Shell. What do i install?

I will be, I've done some calculations and got a rough idea on what output I need, this is what ultimately made me disregard UFH. The house is currently empty so bit hard to judge it's requirements however when all completed it will still only have 1 bath/shower combo maybe separate. I'm not...
