Cedar shingle roof... Have I messed up?

Yes, I wish I had boarded the roof first but hopefully it'll be okay. I'll post when I've finished to let you know how waterproof it is

Cedar shingle roof... Have I messed up?

hi, I decided to build a playhouse for the kids and thought it would be a nice idea to put a cedar shingle roof on. I fixed the batons and nailed the shingles, leaving a 200mm overlap. All seemed to be going well until I finished one side and went inside to inspect. If I stand at a certain angle...

Refurbishing and insulating a flat roof

I've had a look on the Celotex website and it appears that you can place TD4000 straight onto the joists (it has a 5.5mm WBP ply bonded to it)although it has to be overlayed with 12mm ply before the EDPM can be put down. I suppose my next question is should I completely rip up my existing roof...

Refurbishing and insulating a flat roof

Thanks for your reply. It's probably the cost of the combined components that's hiking the cost, ie osb, insulation, another board on top (if that's required) then the epdm membrane. Can you place the epdm straight onto the insulation boards?

Refurbishing and insulating a flat roof

I am looking at refurbishing my L shaped flat roof which has been patched over for years and now needs totally redone. To keep costs down I'm considering replacing the deck, along with a joiner friend, and then doing a Diy-Epdm job. The whole roof is about 150sqm. I'd also like to take the...

Wren kitchen wall cabinet rear corner bracket

I'm looking for a bit of advice with regards to fitting the rear corner brackets to a wren wall unit. The instructions seem to suggest that you screw through the rear panel and yet all the other instructions show you how to conceal the fixings so it seems funny that you'd have two screws through...

    Repair to exterior upvc door

I have a glazed upvc door that has a gap between the door and the frame of about 10mm at one end. It will only lock with the key and will not 'multi-lock' if that's the right phrase. I had someone out re the door and replacing hinges on the hopper window. I was told that they would remove the...

    Noisy Radiator

There doesn't seem to be a double headed arrow on the TRV although it does appear to be fitted on the flow side (the side that heats up first). Do you think fitting a bi-directional TRV will sort the problem?

    Noisy Radiator

I have one radiator that starts to make a loud noise when the system heats up. If I adjust the trv the noise goes away. A friend has suggested that it's fitted the wrong way but I don't know if that means its fitted on the wrong side of the radiator, or the wrong way round! How do I tell and...

    hoe to finish skirting ends

Thanks for all you suggestions. mitring the ends seems the easiest option so I'll go with that plus I don't really understand the explanation of how to return the skirting to the floor!

    hoe to finish skirting ends

Hi, I am in the throws of finishing off redecorating a room and will be adding mdf ogee skirting. Their are a couple of places where the skirting finishes proud of the wall (ie where it meets the patio doors and again where it meets the step down into the room). My question is how do you finish...

Wooden flooring - tools for the job?

Thanks for the replies. I might go for the tounge-tite option and it gives me an excuse to buy a new cordless drill! B&Q have a 18v Dewalt for £99 plus there's a 15% discount code available so it seems like a good deal. Does that sound like a reasonable option?

Wooden flooring - tools for the job?

Thanks Flooringman. I take it the pnuematic nailer is still manual, just easier to drive the nail in with?

Wooden flooring - tools for the job?

Hi, I layed an oak floor about 2 years ago using a hired porta nailer. Even though it gave a good finish I found it back breaking! This time I was hoping to buy an electrical nailer for approx £100. Am I waisting my time or is there anything out there that would do the job? The flooring is 18mm...

    Rendering stairwell

Hi, I have had a new stair fitted which left a large whole in the wall. I have plasterboarded this however, eventhough the plasterboard is plumb the wall isn't and part of the plasterboard is about 3 - 4mm from the wall. There is also some brick showing and the wall doesn't appear to run at 90...
