    Grid Switch - Double Socket?

It depends on the rating of the grid switches. If they are standard 20A DP switches then a double socket is not ok. Fitting a fused connection unit whilst safe would not be a good solution. Having the hot water tap and the tumble dryer running at the same time would overload a 13A fuse causing...

Siemens to stop producing Electrium wiring accessories

Good evening, hope everyone in DIYnot land is keeping well! Just seen that Siemens have announced they will be stopping producing all wiring accessories sold under the Crabtree, Volex and Appleby brands at the end of this year. I used to install nothing but Appleby boxes as they used to be...

What vacuum for plaster dust? Henry with hepa bags sufficient?

I've used a Henry with the hepa-flo bags for years and it works brilliantly. The hardest task it has to deal with is when it's connected to my wall chasing machine which creates a huge amount of very fine dust. it can keep up for about a metre of chasing and then I have to turn it off, give it a...

    Guess what’s causing this fault

I did wonder about the switch but it feels ok and I can’t hear any arcing. Even when I jabbed the switch so it opened quickly it still tripped. If the weather stays poor I’m going to go and have a look tomorrow.

    Guess what’s causing this fault

Been to have a very quick look at an RCBO tripping fault today. So far haven’t had anything in bits or done any testing so I have no idea what is causing it. The symptom is that the RCBO trips most times when the lights are switched off in one of the rooms. The lights switch on fine and stay on...

How would you move these sockets?

Star drills had just about disappeared when I started out but my main job as an apprentice was knocking out back boxes with a lump hammer and sash knife. We eventually got all modern when we upgraded to a scutch chisel

How would you move these sockets?

Yeah I’ve got one but I’ve never liked using it. It just doesn’t feel like the proper way to do things but maybe that’s me being old fashioned. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4430592 ;)
