Grid Switch - Double Socket?

Hey All

Our kitchen has a number of appliances fed from single sockets which all feed back to a grid switch.

The dishwasher socket is under the sink. We’d like to add a hot tap at some point, which requires mains power.

Is it acceptable to replace the single socket which is currently in a pattress box with a double socket?

If not, would it be acceptable to run a fused spur from it instead and that feed the hot tap?

It depends on the rating of the grid switches. If they are standard 20A DP switches then a double socket is not ok. Fitting a fused connection unit whilst safe would not be a good solution. Having the hot water tap and the tumble dryer running at the same time would overload a 13A fuse causing it to blow. The only proper solution is to either run a new cable from an additional switch in the existing grid panel or find a standard socket to feed an additional socket from.

There is a double socket above the worktop, so I’ll go that route, it’s just surrounded by dabs unfortunately, although I imagine there’s a way through.
